Heck even Sachin batted at no.5 for 30 tests. Ganguly/Azharuddin to name a few more. If anything being an opener it is harder to find the spot with Gill/Rohit/Rahul taking up the spots. and Kohli at no.4 Pujara at no.3 He is talking about batting position in domestics...
vvvslaxman Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Just now, diga said: He is talking about batting position in domestics... It shouldn't matter. He is playing a specific role for his side. Doing it well. That's all that matters. India tried Laxman at the opening for a long time. He failed massively. Eventually he himself told he wants to bat in the middle. Just because someone opens the innings it doesn't mean they are better than batsmen coming after him. eulbninem 1

Suggest you to read the article ... according to the article, Sarfaraz's batting against fresh bowlers & bounce is questionable. VVS played well at No-3 in domestics & its probably easier to adapt to no-6 in internationals.

I don't see much difference between 4/5/6. Tendulkar batted mostly at 5 for a long time before getting promoted up to 4. He never batted at 3. Are we going to undermine Pant's knocks because he plays low down the order?

Not like hes a child prodigy or an earth shattering talent this country has ever produced. At best he can replace Pujara in the Team and even thats not guaranteed. Maybe not the middle finger, but he did point fingers and was animated is what i read in the news reports. Anyways, my point is he should be patient and wait for his turn, and not show agitation and gestures towards anyone, quietly go about his Business, that will help his chances. He was charged up after scoring a ton. We see players do it all the time. There was no finger pointing at any selector etc eulbninem 1
eulbninem Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Don't know if his time will ever come, but imagine if they select him and then drop him after 1 or 2 series if he isn't able to perform. The star culture will keep on ruining any chances of the team winning an icc trophy. Big names in the top order will stay there until they retire on their own terms. Ipl shouldn't decide if someone is gonna play in tests. They selected ipl superstars every single wt20 and have been abysmal in the last 2 tournaments tbh. So the format in which they should be performing isn't quite working out either. tweaker and Lord 2
Malcolm Merlyn Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 No, Sarfaraz is ignored due to his on and off field antics, showing middle fingers to selectors sitting in the stand after a century has not augured well for his chances. Agree that hes a good test bat and must have been considered for a Test cap, but his attitude has certainly not helped him. Imagine this kind of a situation in another fields of life. A corporate employee who has not received promotion inspite of being a great performer for the past 2 years. Suddenly he receives an appreciation mail from one of the most esteemed clients. What does that employee do next? he replies all on the email where his boss is also marked and sends a to all of them. Will this kind of behaviour be accepted anywhere, i highly doubt. Where did he show middle finger? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk vijaydude 1
vice Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 With all the social media and news putting pressure on the selectors, the limelight is on Sarfaraz now. This is his chance to strike. A stellar Duleep and the selectors should be under lots of pressure.
Gollum Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 (edited) Tbh whatever I have seen of him, Sarfaraz makes Shreyas Iyer look like Viv Richards against genuine quicks. Don't take our domestic stats too seriously, he may be good but not that good!!!! But boy sure needs to be given a decent run. How long are we going to persist with the serial failure Rahane at #5? I remember Shreyas Iyer had otherworldly hype when he was tearing it into domestics & then terrorizing Lyon & co in that practice game in 2017. Even got Sachin's attention. Sarfaraz with all due respect ain't a patch on him. Gollum and tweaker 1 1

Similar to how Sachin took out Warne and co. for Mumbai against Aus in the warm up before the 1998 series. Lone Wolf 1
tweaker Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Sarfaraz’s struggles against fast bowlers in the IPL and Abhimanyu Easwaran’s failure to score influenced the decision, according to a former selector. True, how is that correct to point ones problem against certain type of bowling based on T20 cricket batting, even 4-5 dots there forces batsmen to play risky shots He has some problems but tests give him room there Mosher 1

Give the kid a fair shot in his best format. If he fails, he can go back and fix his issues. The issue is that they don't want to give him that chance. Let him actually fail instead of just assuming that he will. nevada and tweaker 2
vishalvirsingh Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 My 2 cents- Prithvi, Tilak verma, Jaiswal look as good as Shubman Gill. I have not seen miuch of sarfaraz..i am not sure if he is as good as the above 4 at least for odi and T20's. In tests , Yes Sarfaraz has proved his mettle in Ranji so he could be really good with his temperament but on TALENT , i can bet TILAK, Prithvi shaw, JAIswal and GILL are top drawer.

If they really want to tese these guys assemble these guys at MRF pace foundation or whatever the fastest pitch we have let them bowl from 20 yards and see how they do. This arbitrary rejection saying "not good against pace" doesn't cut it when we have clowns batting for 3 years being "terrible against spin" Edited June 29, 2023 by vvvslaxman
Pakistan Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Deport him to us. He will be first name in our team and he will score match winning ton against you guys playing for us.
