I just couldn't believe how easily saffers blocked his scoring shots (poor cover drives) It was one of the most shamelessly pathetic inns I have ever witnessed.  Pant was absolutely belting them at the other end.  And Newlands is a fast scoring venue. 

His zero backfoot game ability was exploited and it was the prime reason we lost a historic chance to win a Test series in SA.

It was much earlier for me, NZ 2020(?) when he was just coming off a stellar 2018/19 away season! Couldn't buy a run there.

He has been done as a test player since 2020 after covid lockdowns. The break threw his momentum off. We dont need a has been who can max score 30/40 runs per innings on a good day.

Everyone pretty much failed there...  2020 was probably beginning of the end For Kohli.  But it surely was over in SA.   Capetown 2022 exposed him all ends up. 

He was literally a corpse in that inns.  I have never seen him so helpless.  Even in Eng 2014 it was technical weakness.  

He played literally 120 balls & never looked comfortable here.  They owned him as simple as that.

Agr3d. Worst ever innings. Pathetic display. I almost felt sorry for him. Part of me wanted him to win a major icc title. He deserved one in 2021 but again his selection bias cost him a game there. Lack of prep dint help either. 

 

It was really awful to watch him bat in that test series vs SA. 

 

Even guys like that african shorty Paterson were playing well on the bounce. It's always that one annoying batsman that steps up in SA. We lacked batsmen to score big when they pitch got flatter. 

 

Bowling also had some poor selections. In the third test one tall bowler like prasidh should have played. Prasidh was excellent in the odi series after.

Most Indian batsmen usually score 1-2 good knocks in a series in SA. Ind has been bowled out for 100 & 66 in a test, stumbled to Paul Harris once, and so on.

No doubt. 1 -2 good knocks and then they will rub that in our faces for the rest of their entire tenure as an Indian cricketer. 

They will hold onto that one measly achievement proclaiming about how special they are. The job in their minds is completed and they have nothing further to achieve in life. 

 

Watch most of our losses in SA and new Zealand. Always the batting. Very rarely bowling let's us down. 

 

Except the 2013 test series vs SA, dest were mostly losses due to our batsmen's inability to adapt to bounce and swing. Poor players of bounce and seam. Always have been 

 

2005 should have been a win and batting let us down big time. 

 

2011 we did well and could have won the serie. 

 

2013 was the only bowling failure. 

 

2018 batting let us down massively. 

 

2022 as well was due to mainly batting. Bowling attack had injuries. 

 

Post 2000 it's always been mostly about woeful batting. Actually even prior to 2000, I the 90s our batsmen were hopeless vs bounce and swing.

So true, there is no need to keep playing this guy who on his good day will score a 50 .He should be kicked out right now.

Extremely unfair on our bowlers to carry this load on their shoulders. They're supposed to score runs, take wkts, and clean up Kohli and other batsmen's mess and are then blamed for losses.

 

Kohli meanwhile gets a free pass for not doing anything. Take out his bilateral white-ball heroics and he has had no impact.

Kohli during 2011-2014 was decent, ATG performance between 2015-2018, poor between 2019-2024. So good till 2018, for 8 years, poor for 6 years.

Hes not only done as a Test player, but gone past his prime in all formats, time that hes a given a proper send off, and shown the door with respect, we have much better players and talents waiting in the wings.

I wouldn't call pre-2014 Kohli good and there was nothing much separating him from others. The 2014-2018 patch is the one where he was good, and even there he couldn't create the impact you would expect from a premier batsman the way Smith was able to. It was still left to Pant, Pujara and our lower order & bowlers to win us tough games.

 

Kohli has been playing since 2009-2010 and in his 15 years career, he was pretty good in barely 5 of those years. Rest were either decent (2010-14) or pretty average/poor (2019 till now). There's nothing he has done which deserves such a long rope he has been given. And at the moment what's the point of extending that rope? What will we gain even if say a 37 year old Kohli manages to perform in a Test? It's not as if that'll be the second coming of his career given he's already on the wrong side of 30.

 

We have youngsters who need to be backed. Let Sarfaraz play or bring Sai in or let Easwaran get a game. But we're wasting that spot on a has been who hasn't delivered for India and is already well past his sell by date. I wonder what's the point of selectors if they don't have the balls to drop such a player. If you don't have the balls then don't become a selector. Become a commie or join an IPL team and continue being a lackey of the so called stars and the "King".
