You evolve if you have the personal accountability and responsibilities to ensure you are a good player in all conditions- for him his social media and brad image has become important which is facilitated by BCCI as they want his brand image to be high so he pulls in tv viewers during IPL and India matches. Making runs in India and failing abroad is something that has been accepted by the players and the Board as a normal thing now.

 

The whole structure of BCCI, TM, Players, Lobbbyists, IPL franchises is all rotten to the core- but Indian fans are blinded with delusion to see this and still lend their eyeballs to this so BCCI is still making money and nothing changes

You complain a lot about BCCI and player earnings, IPL.But you somehow  still interested in India cricket.

 

Who said failing abroad is accepted?Gill played one of most important innings by an  Indian batsman in 2021 and helped India win a test series where not many teams have won .

 

Yes he has failed to kick it to next level, it happens with most young players.Patience is needed to groom core players.That does not mean he does not care about his performances.

 

What great things did India achieve abroad  according to your theory before BCCI  started caring only about money and IPL.

 

Problem is  very unreal expectations, it is not BCCI's fault. Money or popularity does not equate talent.

 

1980s WI was the most dominant team but England and Australia had the most money.

Gill has gone downhill but he needs to be supported by the TM and I hope he can bounce back from this slump. 

 

I am still happy to see youngsters in Gill, Jaiswal and Verma breaking into the Indian team, unlike our bowling which has gone to the dogs.

 

We have gone from Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Yadav, Siraj to Arshdeep and random Kumars, where are the youngsters!? Why haven't they groomed any bowler like batting trio above?

He has worked too much on his "pull shots" that he forgot  other shots. Hard hands, Front foot plonking. Actually he looked a lot tighter in the under-19 matches where he was flexible enough to make last minute  adjustment. Playing on flat tracks too much has spoilt him. He has to revisit his technique.  Indian batsmen from the 90s and before were highly rated against spin because of their wristy game. Even AMla was very good due to his wrist work.  He can easily get better at it. 100s of young spinners must be queing up to bowl to him. He can work on it if he really wants to hone his skills.

Gill is among the players who are going to be backed because they have a lot of potential. 
 

Both success and failures are a part of learning process and a cricketer’s career cycle. 
 

If Gill has a few lean series, it means little from a big picture PoV. In future, he could be the player in form and someone in form now could go through a lean phase. What is important is how the players being backed gel as a team!
