Guy is wasting away his prime time. Its not that hard to lose some weight and be fit. Any behavior issues are harder fix but doable. When you have a limited career as a cricketer, you need to put in the best effort. Enjoy after you are 35 or so.

Even if he does not play much for India, He can still play IPL and other games and make tons of money just by having discipline.

He should improve his fitness and aim to play well at-least till he is 30. Just 4-5 good seasons of IPL are enough for him to retire in comfort. He doesn't even need to bother about making it to BCCI X1.

Shahid Afridi also had these batting performances once in a while in county matches.

This led people in Pak to say "If Afridi gets going, anything is possible". Trouble was he almost never got going esp against genuine pace bowling. Once in say 25 tries in ODIs against a team with basically trundlers like India, he would score.

Of Afridis 8 hundreds in tests and ODIs, 5 came against the great medium pace, line and length attack of our dear India.

he is sub-kambli level. kambli played against better domestic attacks, also in SA, etc. and had FC avg (subtracting tests) of 60

Kambli was more talented as well I think.  Never had a glaring weakness apart from Short ball problem which was norm for most Indian batters.

yes, way more talented. only next to tendu and on par with azhar and VVS in terms of talent if we consider Ind batters who played in the 90s (I know azhar debuted in 80s, but was there till 1999)

Id take it if Shaw were to play an important role in any ICC tourney win for is in the future despite the conclusion generally being that he didn't do justice to his talent.

If he does manage to pull his socks up then there's definitely a biopic waiting for him in 2 decades.

Hope he can carry this performance over rest of the games. There is unbelievable potential to unlock still

there are also unbelievably large holes in his game. if he plays starc, boult, afridi, topley, even fizz, etc. he will get out in a few balls at most

Ya know, for all of the flak that guys Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane get on this board and elsewhere, one cannot question one thing - their commitment to staying fit well into their 30s.  It takes work and sacrifice, but guess what, that's part of why you're being paid karods.  To be in good shape is the bare minimum you can do for your team and the people who come to watch you play.

Not sure what the deal is with guys like Shaw and Sarfaraz, but for an international athlete, it is not acceptable to be unfit to that extent. I have very little hope for Shaw coming back fit and ready to compete for an India-team spot.

Yes, rahane and brat and even thigh slapper (who is 37.5!) and pandu qualify under this category. some of the current gen players don't seem to have basic fitness nailed down: shaw, sarfaraz

It is not that hard to stay fit having access to state of the art gyms and elite trainers.
