How are you coping?

Everyone I think will now accept the fact that the Indian team is a bunch of chokers.

Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja also failed in 2011 World Cup and 2015 and 2019 and 2023.

See the pattern?

Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina and Zaheer khan were clutch performers.

Yet, recognition always goes to Sachin Tendulkar for his stat padding.

You cannot call Kohli ODI GOAT if he didn't even win a single cup neither as captain nor as a the best batsman of the team.

On the other hand Travis Head won 2 major cups for AUS.

Mbappe won France a WC and came really close with another one but got really unlucky in Soccer.

The reality is best players bring their best game and elevate the team in crunch situations.

Rohit, Kohli, Gill, Iyer and especially Rahul and SKY don't have it in them.

Bumrah also choked in the semi and final.

At international level margins are thin.

I have now accepted the fact that India will not win another major tournament for at least another 10 years.

The culture of individual stats and PR team nonsense will ruin it for next generation of players like Gill, Iyer, Kishan etc.

did not cope well with the loss tbh. there was a false expectation and I think ind tinkered too much with the pitch. Somehow Ind did not get tested with their unbalanced team and found out in finals. Spending time with wife and family who are all cricket lovers helped. I decided not to expect anything after 22 debacle but all the good performances this year raised our hopes. I think this is the end of an era. The t20 squad does not look extra special compared to others, anyway t20 wcs are fluke driven. We simply do not have the luck factor in big matches, and 24 will be a drubbing. WTC will depend upon 7 away tests we have in SA & AUS, and frankly I dont see ind qualifying. The players will be on a downward slope, rebuilding will go on. If 2025 champions trophy shifts to UAE, it will be a toss based thing. So, at the end, win 4 tosses and chase, might win t20 24, champions trophy 25 (very unlikely). Not too much hope for a SA wc 2027 with batsmen who are poor against pace ( the young generation). Sadly Ind may start losing home tests too after Ravis retire. We could have won 3 4 icc trophies in last 10 years, instead we have 0. Most likely nothing in the next 5 years. Thats the main reason of depression. But we have to consider life goes on and this is just a sport. Its true that if this loss hurts then either we are well to do in real life ; or else doing nothing with life. cheers to all!

This loss will hurt and I think we will not win another cup for a while.

Perfect opportunity squandered by lack of clutch performances.

We can see the threads about BD, Pak etc.

Thats what Indian fans will become doing Nagin dances on IPL victories.

until cricket viewership drops, nothing will change.

So I plan on quitting watching for a while.

It's too painful to get hopes crashed and excuses given.

Kohli is not a GOAT. He can't even be at the level of Travis Head

Abrasive pitch. 32 degree temperature. Ball being bounced off square. Australians continuously shining the ball. One of the best exponents of reverse swing. Sidney Sheldons Australias ‘Best Laid Plans’ up against Indias ‘ If tomorrow comes’ ..

No doubt Starc is the best when it starts reversing. Sandpaper mastermind. :giggle:

At the same venue in our game against Pakistan, it did reverse a bit for Bumrah (Shadab bowled) but there hasn't been that much reverse on this ground in other matches. Extreme rotten luck that.

Cummins said a very key thing. In wc finals you can get away with some bowling mistake ( as you can make it up later) but not any batting failure. As you get only 1 chance to bat. And they got away with Maxwells over and got a bonus wicket.

Bingo.  Like I have always said, they understand ODI cricket very intuitively.  Unlike the heavily analytics driven teams like England,  they've played that batting heavy balance for ages for precisely that reason.

On a tough wicket, if you are 3 or 4 down , you can still go hard at the back end  if you have batting depth.

So having an extra batter as the insurance policy is important rather than a bowling allrounder at 7 who is typically a slogger .

You can always get away with clever bowling changes of part timers and limit the damage like they showed with Marsh and Head.   But you can't do that with batsmen .  There's a big difference between skill levels of specialist batters and the slogging bowling allrounder.

On the other hand, the bowling skull difference Maxwell and Ashton Agar for example is not that high.

That's why they never wanted to take a risk with Agar.

All experts were talking about Australia's "stupidity" in selecting only 1 specialist spinner when others were picking 2 and 3 in the squad.

Looks like they understood better what was needed than all the experts and pretty much all the other teams.

Batting depth , pace and batting allrounders .

I would have suffered such symptoms if we put up a competitive total and lost a last ball thriller. We just plain sucked, with the life going out of the innings when Iyer got out. When defeat is so certain, I just say screw it and move on. It's like watching a flop movie. About 40-50 minutes in you know it's junk and you write it off.

I had a hunch  our weaknesses in batting and the lack of 6th bowler was being covered up by the extraordinary bowling by some and poor cricket by opposition.

The final exposed these weaknesses.

We also need to understand that teams do not give their best in league games and come prepared in a special way for Knock outs. We are not learning how to do that.

We are doing reverse. Playing same team even in dead rubbers against Ned was so stupid. Fatigue is bound to be there, both physical and mental.

Zaheer Khan? Remind me of his numbers in 2003 and 2011 WC Final again?

Playing same team was fine as you need to keep players in form. The bigger travesty was no game time for jadeja or sky to bat.

No players need break, specially fast bowlers. Ned game was perfect opportunity.

SKY wasn't even sent in last 10 overs, that's his only plus point and you don't use it

and then not trusting him in final

Forget figures. Zaheer khan in first 5 overs in wc 2011 final bowled a spell for ages. 7 runs if i m not wrong. Then he bowled an absolute screaming slower and got a batsman out. Sl was only 20 odd in first ten overs on the flattest of wankhede pitch.. 2003 he flopped but remember he had only 2.5 yrs experience and his and yuvis debut was the highlight of 2000 CT.

Yeah wtf was the point of sending jadeja ahead of sky in a WC final? When you didn't promote jadeja in 10 games played before that.
