Why only a 2 match Test series against South Africa?

Seems completely mad. India-South Africa test series in South Africa are always the most entertaining series India play. The ball moves around off the seam all day and provides opportunities for good bowlers and plenty of challenges for good batsmen. It's never boring!

This is just one of the few series India play, where they play against a good team that can compete with them, and it offers up a fantastic spectacle for the fan. So what are BCCI doing only scheduling 2 Test matches?

We get 4/5 match Test series at home where the tracks are raging bunsens, where the games finish inside 3 days and there is hardly a hint of competition. And when the team travels abroad we get a reduced itinerary like this. It is so disheartening as a Test cricket fan.

Actually we have toured SA in 2018 and 2021 too. So, in last 6 years, this is 3rd tour to South Africa. In comparison, we had just one tour to New Zealand.

I don't think we have toured South Africa as frequently as we did in last 6 years hence this time they are giving it a 2 test match series.

I remember CSA wanted a Ashes like series after blockbuster 2010-11 series with INDIA.  Shared colonial past was a factor as well.

But BCCI missed the bus & we had a short 2 test series in 2013...  Which too nearly got canceled after BCCI - Zee had a fallout lol

NZ test tours are rare coz of timings...  NZC has publicly claimed they don't earn much via home tests.  We frequently tour them for ODI T20...  Three tours since 2019 in fact

Pitch doctors SA doctor pitches more than india.

But yes 3 would be nice.

Maybe cause our team sucks vs bounce and swing in batting. They want to try and draw atleast.

This is just Pak propaganda. We play more tests overseas than in India, indisputable fact....% wise least home tests among all nations.

RSA will also play 2 tests next time here, NZ played 2 test series in India last time. Eng played 4 tests in India, 5 in their backyard. Not to forget we toured Aus twice back to back (2018/20) and RSA also (this was their turn to tour Ind).

And pitches in RSA are way more doctored than India, same true for NZ and somewhat for Eng. In India good pacers like Shami, Umesh have stellar record. In RSA whenever Asian sides tour they doctor like crazy (more so since SL's upset win).....I remember Pak and SL played some 6-7 tests after that and not one wicket went to a spinner. Last time Ind toured RSA, Maharaj didn't pick one wicket in 3 tests....but when Aus toured they prepared SC like tracks and Maharaj/Lyon got loads of wickets. Same when Eng tours them. Faf once proudly admitted that he was supervising pitch prep to negate Herath.

Crucket in South Africa is very exciting to watch. Especially the test matches.

Pitches offer pace, bounce and seam movement. Ideal for pace bowling.  And batsmen can score heavily in the 2nd innings these days.

IWhy not have longer series in such a place ??

CSA themselves want to play only 2 test series, like NZ earlier. Most of the revenue comes from white ball and these boards want to capitalize on that.

It's sad how it has all become about money. How did they manage in 90s

An India series would bring revenue in any format.

But T20s bring more revenue, look at the viewership stats. Greed, that's the way of the world.

Poms and Aussies play more tests because people there prefer that format, especially home season tests.

It's good in a way ,we can fluke a series win or a 1-1 like Nzl,srl have done all these years in other nations.

About time we also did the same.

Had it been a 3 match test series against England in 2014,2018 ,we would have drawn it 1-1 and lost 1-2 respectively instead of big defeats in the final 2 tests.

Because Test cricket is finished and broadcasters won't even pay for India tours which only have red ball cricket.

South Africa are only playing 2 Test series going forward.

2010-2011 period was the peak with India touring SA . Ever since, the valuations even for India tours have been declining so CSA are more keen to play T20's and ODIs.

It's officially dead in all of West Indies, PAK, SL.

It's too expensive to host and there are no returns.

SA and NZ are transitioning into post Test nations as well

Boult is no longer available for Test duty and we will all witness history being made with South Africa sending only a 2nd string XI to tour NZ because of the SA 20.

Only Big 3 are somewhat relevant but it will decline soon in India too.
