I agree that Pant has not shown any consistency or composure in T20s. T20 is not just about power game but smart composed  shot making which Pant fails to demonstrate under pressure in limited overs game.

Yes, Pant has no business bypassing everyone and slot it straight into the middle order. This is not ODI or test cricket. T20 is not his cup anyways.

Very good catch.  I just checked.  Sean Williams of Zimbabwe played a T20I last year and was in the 2007 squad.

Apart from that Bangladesh had Shakib , Mahmudullah, Tamim and Mushfiqur in 2007. Not sure how many of these will be selected in 2024

So only minnow/smaller teams. Everyone else has moved on.

The selection is over. How can TM still salvage the playing XI?
The only solid XI is where Dube is permanent at No.6 followed by Pandya and Jadeja.
This team still give me some hope as it will go hard considering batting till No. 8 although imaginary.

Rohit

Jaiswal
Kohli
Sky
Pant or Samson
Dube
Pandya

Jadeja or Axar
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Arshdeep

Yes, Bowling is somewhat weak but so be it.
Under no circumstances we can have Pandya at No.6 and Jadeja at No.7.
That will be curtains before we even play one ball.

Bang on.  Only serviceable XI is with Dube at 6, doubling up as 6th bowling option.

Surprised Siraj,Arshdeep got picked and KL dropped. Everyone else was expected.

Unfortunately that is how it will be.

The only way Dube can play is if Jaiswal is sacrificed and we open with Kohli

Jadeja is not batter at 7. At best he will give a runner ball 10/20 runs, not enough in LOI of this day & age.

I see lot of people here in the forum rooting for completely young t20 team for the World Cup which should have been ideal. Lets see what the youngsters did earlier.

2019 ode worldcup semis agains NZ . Young rishab pant and young hard pandya  threw their wickets away instead of taking the game deep.

2023 ode World Cup final. Young shubman gill threw it away. Shreyas went for a duck !

It's not the young vs old which led india to loose knock outs . It's the conditions/toss. 2019 odd World Cup, the match was extended to next day due to rain. The overcast conditions messed up for india making it a swing/seam friendly pitch which gave NZ undue advantage. 2023, the pitch doctoring (offering a black soil pitch) to lay trap for AUS backfired where the pitch was dead slow in the first innings.

2016 t20 World Cup semis . On Mumbai pitch, India lost the toss hence the match.

when the football world rooted for messi/ronaldo one last time, why not root for kohli-rohit one last time?

And how much exposure did they have before that? Our stat padders were playing every bilateral series before the cup and these guys barely got time in the middle. So of course when seniors choked in crucial matches they suddenly were in a situation they had no exposure in.

Why is every team Kohli a part of having the same problem? RCB has the same problem, oh the youngsters don't play, oh others batsmen are bad

Any team with stat padders on top will always have same issues, other batsmen will never be able to play to their potential. When same players go to other IPL team from RCB they perform well. Dube is an example

My prediction? The day our stat padders retire, saame youngsters will play well

Yeah sure, the same seniors choking every single time is because of external circumstances, not because they are stat padding chokers.

Braindead selection.

Selecting old washed up out of form players from franchises that are pathetic and competing for wooden spoon Mumbai and RCB

Rohit

SKY

Hardik

Bumrah

Kohli

Siraj

Only 1.5 of the above deserve selection given how the game has transformed (Bumrah and 1/2 SKY). Rest are pointless selections

1992 young inzamam  won the ODI World Cup semifinal. Travis head won 2023 final .  Youngsters were supposed to be fearless, pant/pandya/gill messed up in 2019/2023 knock outs. if you are talking about exposure, that comes with experience which is why rohit Sharma asked for kohli for his temperament. cricket is not physical as its made out to be, all boils down to temperament and to an extent pitch conditions.
