IPL is just too darn long

I understand the financial aspect as it brings lots of dollars to BCCI but there should be a limit. This tournament is just too long and after a certain point it gets boring. I am sure even players feel the same way but are reluctant to speak due to the money.

Do you guys want to see rather a smaller & more competitive IPL?

Add 2 more teams.

Split into 2 groups of 6 teams each.

Stage I: Every one in the group plays everyone else once: 15 matches per group, 30 matches total

Stage II: Top 2 teams from each group qualify for Stage II.  Everyone plays everyone else: 6 matches

Top 2 play finals.

37 matches total.

How long do the other sports leagues like NBA, NHL, MLB, Premier league, La liga happen. How do they sustain the viewer interest for so long. It's quite boring to  follow the IPL even on Cricbuzz now.

Money talks. If we go by american sports, we can have half the year devoted to just IPL. Baseball starts in April and ends in October. NBA starts in November and ends in May. That may be overkill. And many boards will not agree to it. If we want to destroy other boards, this is a wise option . We can say goodbye to cricket as we know it. Players will be enticed by money. Micheal Holding can cry a river :hehe:

6 matches is great for viewing public not good for the team owners. They want franchises to play double digit matches at least to build interest in franchises. NFL plays the lowest amount of matches among american sports and they play 16 games. RCB has done nothing but sucking in IPL but its a successful franchise as there are rabid fans coming through the turnstiles for every game.

why?

The EPL sometimes has 6 games kicking off at 3pm on a sunday with some channels showing some games and other channels showing some games- problem with BCCI is they want ONE match per day so that ALL indian eyeballs are on that so better for advertisers.

Lack of National level sports or even other domestic level sports helps them sustain. NFL goes from Fall to Feb, most follow only from playoffs or wildcard games. We follow International cricket, Domestic cricket , IPL only artificially fills up peak summer when there is no other cricket. But this time due to elections it has stretched for more than 2 months. It started when my weight was winter-level

Make IPL a year long championship..

Players especially English are home sick boys. Keeping them too long away from home will drive them nuts. They have to strike a balance.

There are many games in Premier league that is not shown in live TV. I don't think BCCI will allow 3 games in a day and had to skip broadcasting of some matches.

my observations of IPL-a significant portions of the matches are just plain boring especially the one played on  roads.

the restriction of only 4 foreign players in the 11  leads to an inferior product.make the SMA the best  tournament for unearthing indian talent, give it better status than a one which nobody watches.
