The enigma of Rohit Sharma is everyone is critical of him when he is plodding along wasting balls like he did against England in 2022. They term him selfish. But once he gets into the Mad Max fury road zone every Indian starts praying that please dont get out.. play sensibly .. you are already on 85 off 36 balls.. why do we need to hit.. same in wc 2023.. he kind of flicks his switch suddenly and then no bowler is spared..i remember that match against bangladesh, where he was injured and retired hurt and then decided to come back with a broken thumb.. he manhandled the bowlers like crazy.. issue is the zone days have been far n few in crunch matches..

Rohit is one of my most fav white ball batters more then Virat. His innings was brutal yet elegant which only he can do. When on song, Ro can destroy any bowler on planet earth.

Rohit too late in his career finally understood that the only way to play against Australia is through attacking cricket and they would be all over you if you play meek, timid and defensive cricket.

 

Unfortunately it didn't come off in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Now with the fake batting depth he is also looking to bat a little more freely and throwing around his bat at everything.

How does Sharma play for the team and Kohli doesn't when Kohli has a higher strike rate in T20Is and ODIs than Rohit? I agree since 2023 ODI world cup, Rohit started playing differently but let's not pretend as if he did more than Kohli before that.

Semis and finals against big teams. No defining innings either in t20s or ODIs. 

 

Pick an Indian C team and they would reach semis more often than not.

Today was essentially a dead rubber. Failed in most T20 knockouts/must win games since 2007.

Also he has benefit of batting in powerplay so SR will be higher

Wish we could have a selector like Vengsarkar who actually picked youngsters. This team would've been even better with just a couple of additions - Rinku (instead of Dube), Abhishek (instead of Jadeja) and Jaiswal (instead of Kohli) in the playing XI.

No it was not, If India had played badly, we would be out of SFs or placed second. This was the first strong team we faced in this WC. Nobody takes a Aus game as a dead rubber and go into Sfs in a losing mindset. It was a KO for Aus , so they would come harder. His intent played them in the backfoot and his attitude got even Dube to hit out first ball 4. It rubs off on others. We have a very weak team, batting wise. Totally dependent on Sky and Pant to score quickly. Kohli is a passenger.

We needed to lose very badly to be knocked out. Same for Aus to top the group. A huge win was required. So there was less pressure of being knocked out.

 

One loss doesnt mean losing mindset lol.

 

Great innings ofcourse. Lets hope he shows same intent in semis and finals.

Hope they go with this attitude against Eng and in Finals. If we lose, so be it, we can always blame panauti Modi for a loss.

How is it a dead rubber. If Rohit hadn't played well we would have lost and Australia would have qualified for semis.

Didn't effect our chances. We were qualifying even if we lost unless it was a 100 run loss or something

Winning against Australia was not a dead rubber:

 

1) This eliminated a tough opponent in Australia

 

2) Winning the group has benefit of qualifying for the final if semi final gets rained off

 

3) Played in manner that will effect opponents in coming matches

1) Afghans eliminated Aussies. We helped them

 

2) We were winning the group anyways unless we lost by huge margin

 

3) We played 'in this manner' whole WC 2023 till semis. Didn't effect opponent anyway.
