Got to be patient

Just 23 and 3 match old

Played 2 decent knocks in 6 innings

Has the talent .

Experts here don't understand most young players take time to develop only after 15-20 macthes u realise true potential of someone

People were even baying for Gill blood here when he is just 25 and was learning

Agree, if it's Sai vs Tilak Verma, Tilak Verma has nerves of steel. Sai has so far proved to be a mental midget, we don't want any Kl Rahul in the team.

Tilak has better first class average too but batting at 3 isn't as straight forward. Don't think Tilak bats at 3 in FC cricket while Sudarshan opens for TN. So #3 is more natural spot for an opener.

Nahi Bhai . Apun ko tho Root jaisa batting karnewaala chahiye wo bhi 1st test  se hi !  If he was so bad he would not have scored 60+ in the 1st innings in this pitch .

Tilak varma was opened up by Tanzim both in under-19 and in ODi in the off stump channel. He is way too vulnerable. He fishes a lot He is a great T20 option. Tilak varma based some low class teams in the first class cricket.

I have been a Sai Sudarshan supporter, have advocated for his selection many times. But currently he is not ready for intl cricket and there are better and more prolific players waiting in the wings.

Absolutely. Plus these are tough and unfamiliar conditions for a number 3 to negotiate. Even Jaiswal has had to be dropped thrice to get to 50 .Even international teams get shot out for sub 100 scores in England in similar conditions. Apart from the opening stand, English batsmen found survival tough here too and their entire team batting in home conditions got shot out in 51 overs.

People who are expecting a 23 year old batting at 3 to be the second coming of Bradman in his 3rd test on a green pitch in overcast conditions are deluded.

Tilak plays for Hyderabad which isn't a low class team, plays in elite group. It's weak side but playing for weak side in elite group is a bigger challenge than playing for a strong side.

Technically Tilak looks more solid of the two.  You can't argue he has more range than Sai.

Tanzim taking him out at U19 or at his debut ODI doesn't mean much.

Tanzim is a pretty good bowler in fact.  That was a pretty good ball in Asia Cup plus nerves of a debutant on display.

Right now Tilak is absolutely ruling County cricket..

Scoring tons and batting for marathon hours.

Sai should get a longer rope.  There must be shootout between the two during Duleep Trophy.

That's how selections should happen ideally.

Sai is a potential pick by selectors maybe some Gill GT bias as well.

Opening and #3 are the most challenging spots for batsmen, especially those debuting in SENA. I don't understand how ICFers want ready made peak Gavaskars, Haydens, Dravids, Pontings in these spots.

We haven't had a good #3 for 5+ years now, won't get one if we keep this merry-go-round approach.

Anybody can bat at #4 or lower in Eng, coming against older ball and 2nd/3rd spells of opponent spearheads.

Sai can fix this . This is Test batting 101. Sai as a young player can change his stance

All young batsmen batting in unfamiliar conditions need time to work these out. When Ponting first came to India he couldn't score a run and kept getting out in the same way to Harbhajan. Even over his overall career, he never quite mastered Indian conditions averaging less than 27 over a period of 14 years.

A lot of people here are applying a ridiculous standard to judge a 23 year old batting at number 3 in England on debut, probably one of the most difficult assignments there can be.

Tilak Varma has played just  4 county FC games ! He is not "ruling" county cricket where even a dud like Dom Sibley has scored a treble century this season.

The level of hyperbole here is insane. These county records cannot be used to judge any young player's readiness to face international level attacks in England.

Akashdeep has looked more comfortable at crease than Sai has looked all series. That should say it all about this guy.

If this guy gets chances against WI then selectors are bigger idiots than I have imagined them .

Lol..you should look at the conditions as well...

with that logic, akash looked better than gill and nair ---that doesnt mean anything

Agianst WI, we need to blood in "young batter" - not Nair,  Easwasaran or Jagadeesan type of 30+ old seasoned Ranji workhorse.

Sai, Tilak or Sarfaraz.

Iyer can be a good stop gap for the current WTC cycle.

Lol what conditions, he walked in facing new ball. This is not first time this guy failed and looked awful.

He has played on flattest pitches against an awful bowling attack and still looked like a guy who has no clue how to bat.
