I was watching a program where they were picking all time ODI XI and thought of opening a thread here for the same. Considering ODI has a relatively shorter history (compared to test cricket), I think it will be easier to pick.

My list as follows:

Sachin Tendulkar

Sanath Jayasuriya

Ricky Ponting (c)

Virat Kohli

Viv Richards

MS Dhoni(w)

Kapil Dev

Saqlain Mushtaq

Wasim Akram

Glenn McGrath

Malcom Marshal

Garner was a better ODI bowler than Marshall and pivotal in 1979 WC win.

If you are giving value to the World Cup performance highly, you should pick Shane Warne ahead of Saqlain. Otherwise, Murali is the obvious choice considering all parameters.

My list as follows:

Sachin Tendulkar

Sanath Jayasuriya

Ricky Ponting (c)

Virat Kohli

Viv Richards

MS Dhoni(w)

Kapil Dev

Wasim Akram

Shane Warne

Glenn McGrath

Joel Garner

Others :-

Rohit Sharma

AB de Villiers(w)

Andrew Flintoff

Muttiah Muralidharan

A team that I would find interesting to watch:

Top order

Jayasuriya - an explosive opener and a smart spinner. Mastered the batting in power play in the 1996 World Cup. Was the Man of the Tournament in it.

Sachin - picked for his consistency. Can bowl as well if required. Was Man of the Tournament in the 2003 World Cup.

V Richards - one of the best players of pace and swing. A handy off-spinner known as the man with the golden arm.

Middle order

M Crowe (c) - rewarded for his consistent impactful batting and innovative captaincy in the 1992 World Cup. Was the Man of the Tournament in that World Cup. It was the first time that this award was introduced. Known to be a brilliant player of reverse swing as well.

B Stokes - a left hander who can do power hitting as well as play per the situation. Performed in two finals - 2019 ODI and 2022 T20, a different format but it showcased his clutch qualities. Has played clutch knocks in tests as well.

ABDV (wk) - brings 360 degrees batting skills to the 11.

Klusener - a cool customer under pressure. Can bowl quick. He has touched 150 kmph on a few occassions, iirc.  Brought an invincible quality to the SA team in the 1999 World Cup - something that a very few players can do. Was the Man of the Tournament in that World Cup.

Bowlers

Akram - the left arm pace bowler. Also known as the sultan of swing. Can swing his bat too.

Warne - the legendary leg spinner. Can be handy with the bat as well.

Bumrah - brings versatility to the 11.

Garner - said to be the best ODI bowler of his time. The big bird could bowl lethal bouncers and deadly yorkers. A key player for West Indies in its 1979 World Cup win.

Common players b/w Test and ODI teams: Viv & Warne!

Richards wasn’t a test opener, opening is a specialist position in test cricket.

Why Razzaq instead of Flintoff, any reason?

Viv has played 47 tests as a top order batsman (#1-3) and averages 60+ there.  He even has a 100 as an opener.

I would slot him in the top order as he is among the best players of pace and swing bowling. I would open with him if I can’t slot him at #3.

Flintoff was great at #5.   Razzaq was a #7 and probably the most underrated #7 in ODI history.

Flintoff was the better bowler over his career but I'd rather have a consistently  explosive #7 when I already have 4 great bowlers.

Agree on Razzaq. But why no ABD? He is literally the biggest matchwinner in the format.

Between ABD and Viv for me at #4.  Went with Viv.
