I am not sure that is true. He is a talented, promising bowler with the gift of height and bounce (rare in our part of the world), but was often injured and very inconsistent. He improved a bit, but just not enough to be a compelling can't-be-dropped bowler. At this point, based on his potential, he is a XV guy, not necessarily an XI guy.

That would be chopping and changing for the sake of it. Brar has played just 6 ODIs so far, 3 of which were against Afghanistan. Prasidh is the guy in posession and he has been doing an adequate job often in Bumrah's absence. With fast bowlers injuries etc are common so there are always going to be opportunities for Brar but to just dump one of the bowlers who have built up some experience of bowling in tests with a complete newbie doesn't make a lot of sense. You could make the same kind of argument to dump KL Rahul and just put Suryavanchi his test debut based on his strong start in T20s

Brar does have a comparable FC record to PK and bowled well in the warm-up match, didn't he?  That's way different than VS' T20 performance.

It's a bit of a strawman argument that we are asking for PK to be sacked for good. It's a bit more subtle than that. It is more about bringing Brar, not removing PK.

Brar has been bowling really well, including in the practice match, generates pace and seems more consistent than PK. So, if there was room for only one hit-the-deck specialist, pick Brar for his upside. If there is room for 3 seamers, well, PK can slot in too. It's not like anyone is asking for PK to be dropped no matter what.

Second, Brar does not have inferior FC stats to PK. They are a wash:

GB: avg 25.24, SR 41.3

PK: avg 24.25, SR 42.8

I also don't buy the idea that, if PK is dropped in this one match, he is gone forever. If true, that is a problem. What happened to good old competition to find your way back into the XI?

I see too much complex thought process in some cases.  Often without watching the new players bowl / bat for any length of time.

A pool of pacers are created and they are rotated based on current form, fitness, pitch type and playing conditions. Does not mean that a temporarily replaced pacer's career comes to an end.

Gurnoor Brar is in great form on flat pitches now. Saw it in the 2nd Unofficial Test when he took a 10 wicket haul [ 6 + 4 ] in SL a few days back on a dead pitch where no other pacer from either side could pick even 2 wickets including Nabi.

And he clearly outbowled both Siraj and Prasidh by a margin in the practice match. Not just a matter of outbowling ( which can happen in a practice match where the big players are taking it easy )  but the types of balls he bowled. He kept getting steep lift at high pace on a very flat pitch. Often knocking down the keeper ( not talking about batsmen ). Neither Siraj nor Prasidh has ever bowled such deliveries anywhere.

Not utilizing his current form and firely bowling in not prudent IMO.

There may come a time when Gurnoor is not in form for some time and then others maybe preferred over him.

I have no problem with that, I never thought he was good. But lot of geniuses here were big fans of him. They felt he is better than Shami also.

But Brar not getting selected for this test is still right call. India A matches are nothing but glorified matches.

We have seen even guy like Jurel scoring 100s in them.

Praisdh playing this match over Brar is still right call.

FYI Shami should have played in Australia , England and in this series too.He still is best bowler after Bumrah in this country.

These two bozos Gambhir and Agaraka have killed his career.Let him fail before discarding him.

I think there are concerns about Shami being unable to last the full five days in a test match but atleast let him play a game and limp off injured before writing him off! He cant do any worse than the pacers picked presently.

That is what I have been screaming, who are they to say fitness of Shami is not good, he played Ranji and every other domestic tournament. He has been discarded for no reason. If he limps off playing then it is on him.

Can he do worse than both bozos who played in first test Siraj and Prasidh.

Great bowling by Suthar.Nice to see a new spinner doing well .Hope he continues to grow.

Spin all rounders who have classical spin bowling action is a rare species. Even Suthar is not really a no.7 batmsn. At best no.8. If India finds a similar off spinner with classical actionwith slightly less batting ability he won't find a spot as our pacers are also like that. That will give us 5 tailenders with varying degress of batting ability. This is why INdia has to spend time with the available all rounders to improve them as bowlers. When Washinngton returns instead of trying push him to 3 get him to bowl more overs. Don't give 50th over, 60th over.If they want Washi to be a better bowler in Tests they should stop playing him in shorter format and have him solely focus on Tests.

Gurnoor seems to be an excellent pick. But yet to debut.

Since the 5th test in England, when Prasidh played a big part in the win, he seems to have transformed as a longer format bowler. Maybe he started believing that he belongs here.

He has a bowling average of 21.0 and SR of 34.7 since then. ER has fallen to 3.6

While stats of such a small sample size carries little meaning, but his accuracy has improved a lot while maintaining his pace. Movement has improved too. Seeing this in ODIs too from the Afghanistan series.

I dont think Prasidh or Siraj did anything wrong.

Prasidh specially bowled quite well in second inns

He is really getting better,he is trying new deliveries and batsmen have no clue.

Haven’t seen a good spinner in a while. Ashwin was good but had to rely on the pitch a bit more.

Wait for some time guys.

He is good, but real test will come up when the opposition will read his bowling style and plan for him.

Kuldeep & Chahal also did the same when they started, but got found out eventually.

he isnt even some mystery spinner where batsmen need to figure out his variations he relies on pure basics and accuracy which makes him deadly even on flat decks so on a proper rank turner he will straight up tear teams apart plus nobody in world cricket is a genuine spin expert anymore everyone struggles when it turns and unlike lazy mugs like kuldeep and chahal who refused to evolve and work on their flaws this guy actually shows intent to adapt and improve my only fear is management getting greedy and forcing him into a three format player because that heavy workload will completely break his body and ruin his career

T20s is bit diff than tests, in t20 batters come with a plan and backs it up with their power game hit 4/6.

Test is diff batters still needs to play out diff stages and phases of the game , jadu and ashwin were potent in tests but nt in white-ball

Real test will be in SENA. He will succeed in subcontinent. But seeing his line and accuracy Atleast he can control runs. Kuldeep has flatter trajectory. Suthar has higher release point.
