Why doesn't Kohli need to play Duleep trophy to prove his place in the side?

Drives me crazy thinking about it lol.

Then we come up with genius moves like 4 pacer template (regardless of conditions overseas) while ignoring trimurtis non performance.

Man those were the dark days.

Bowling combination has nothing to do with failure of the batters.

It's not so much that he is not playing domestic as he hasn't worked on his game in the last 4 years.

Root has ruthlessly worked on his game and he hasnt played a whole lot of domestic either. In fact, he goes and plays even overseas leagues.

Root doubled down on the strokes where his averages were high and eschewed his low percentage shots.

Kohli has done nothing of the sort. Still trying to cover drive fast bowlers by advancing down the pitch .

He has always been driven by hunger and fight. That seems to be missing now from his personality. He looks content and at peace with what he has achieved.

Oval pitch is the closest to subcontinent pitch. Ashwin is probably the biggest nemesis of Australians.

Look at the 2021-2023 cycle. This guy was sitting out. But discarded Rahane came back straight into playing XI based on one innings in the IPL at wankhede.  We played 4 useless pace bowlers there. Ridiculous.

Aus must thank the useless England 2021 batting lineup for making our team management think this was a genius move.

We lost WTC finals.

Ironically, we lost the final test against Eng in 2022 so we couldnt win that series anyways.

Lmao.

Lost a needless WTC and a WC due to moronic decisions.

Legends.

Its double standards by Jay Shah- first they give a directive to players to play ranji for being in line to be selected for test team but Kohli can simply come back from London after holidays for 8 weeks and no practice matches and boom back in the test team. Why one rule for him and other rules for everyone else?

Ashwin and Jadeja didnt play Duleep but atleast they scored runs and saved India's asses.. wth are Rohit and Kohli doing??

Until the next WTC final - if we make it ie - we are doomed to carry them for their legacy's sakes.

There was a dialogue in Dark Knight movie

"You either die as a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villian"....

On paper you can say it's just a movie, a form of entertainment and nothing more. Although, keep it in the current situation where Virat is in and you can feel the words turning true.

Kohli is in a decline in Tests, numbers don't lie. Add a stats filter from 01 Jan 2020 onwards and his avg comes to 32.72 (excluding today's inns). During same window from the players who have played atleast 10 Tests

Rohit averages 42.70

Pant 43.55

Jadeja 38.72

YBJ 64.35

Axar 35.88

Ofcourse, we have other problems like KL (avg 32), Gill (avg 35) as well. But that doesn't mean Kohli's lack of form should be ignored.

I hope he is concerned as well likewise and working in the background to fix the problems. Else, in Indian Cricket public memory is very short and it won't be long enough when more and more voices will start putting pressure on him.

Ashwin played state level T20 league. Won MOM in the final for his batting at chepauk. So he is in touch.

Kohli gets a fine edge and ball hits his pad.

LBW given.

But he walks away without reviewing.

Can't imagine Kohli of 2008 to 2019 doing this.

That trademark hunger to bat on at all costs is missing nowadays.

Kohli's done and doesn't care. It's the selector's fault for carrying this has been who never really made a difference in his entire career. His best format was T20 between 2014 and 2018, and other than that has never been a difference maker.

Assuming Kohli plays all 10 tests this season + 1 WTC game ( if qualified), his average mighr come down to 46-47...that will be a big bloat on his ATG status....

He's gonna cost us another WTC with his typical "no show"

Spot on,

He needed to play Duleep trophy, he has forgotten how to play spin bowling, it was only matter of time even if he did not get out to Mehdi.

You cannot become better batsman in nets and gym. Sachin played domestic matches even in his last season .

He always had a weakness around his fifth/sixth stump and that will never go away.As players get older they need to revamp their technique, he instead has become a tailender with no backfoot strokes against both spin and pace but is occupying the most important batting slot.

He does not need to look far , Ashwin is prime example of working on his batting to stay relevant.

Also, Touch/reflex players like him, Ponting, Smith, Sehwag, see a much sharper decline when they lose their reflexes than technique players like Sachin, Root etc

I don't think Kohli is a reflex player. He is a more guess player IMO.He does not read the ball from bowler's hand everytime. So he is always guessing either line or length and that is the reason he  gets caught in no mans land.

That is why he had series when he could not do anything in his prime also.Ponting also was a guess player.

He is a lot like Ponting in this regard, agreed, the same kind of lunges and reflexes.

Very interesting take.

Who else were guess players?
