Ultimate_Game Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 The title says everything. We're carrying too many non-performing "seniors" at the moment. Test (and ODI) team is filled with 4 of them in Rohit, Kohli, KL Rahul and Siraj. Carrying 4 passengers is too much. Look at our T20 team who doesn't have to carry this baggage and compare it to Tests and ODI teams. Recall the Eng series earlier this year when we had youngsters in Sarfaraz, Jurel, and Jaiswal in the team and how good the team looked. Or even the win in Aus in 2020-21 when we let the youngsters in. Now it's back to seniors and we're imploding against a NZ side who were swept 3-0 by SL! Our lower order was the one doing the heavy lifting for so long as seniors have been there for the ride for the last few years. This Test shows what happens when lower order doesn't clean up seniors' mess. Blame Gambhir or lack of batting technique all you want but the real problem are useless seniority quota. When someone like Siraj can play ahead of a much better Akash Deep or KL Rahul is ahead of deserving players like Sarfaraz or Jurel, this is bound to happen. Plus we've Rohit who can't bat for too long, and Kohli who has been done for the last 5 years in Tests. Kick them out and you'll see much better performances like our T20 team. Now Sarfaraz as per the custom as to make way for Gill Don't think that'll happen this time round. They would've dropped Sarafaraz had we won. But if we lose the series to NZ, seniors will be under a lot of pressure so they'll drop KL for Gill. But in the longer run we'll continue to under-achieve when more than 1/3rd of the team doesn't deserve to be there in the first place.
The Realist Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 It's more of a question of when they want to stop. Performance is not even a metric. Selectors have no backbone to do anything else. Ultimate_Game, Lord, JaFanatic and 1 other 1 3

Selectors have no backbone to do anything else. Nepo-baby Shah has already anointed Rohit as captain across all formats for eternity. Plus Kohli will remain till he feels like it. KL and Siraj are in the same category. Whenever youngsters are given a chance they perform and then we go back to the same old seniors
deathmonger Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 KL and Siraj should be removed. What's wrong with Rohit though? He's been scoring well enough. Kohli has been okay in the last two years. nitinbwj 1

He's been scoring well enough. Kohli has been okay in the last two years. Problem with Rohit is that he can no longer bat for long, which is a pre-requisite for Tests. Even his good scores have been quick 30s, 40s or 50s. This may be good for T20 or ODIs, Tests demand a lot more from batsmen. The other side effect is that if the captain plays and perishes as if it's a charity match, how can you ask others to play responsibly and put a price on their wkts? This also keeps the opposition in the game as they know Rohit is not gonna bat for longer than 20 overs and an early wkt is round the corner. Sehwag used to be attacking as well but he scored big. When he got in he made the opponents pay. With Rohit if it's his day it's a score of 40 or 50 else it's a single digit score. This approach won't win you too many Test matches. singhvivek141 Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) In response to the thread, This tradition will likely continue until the World Test Championship 2025 at the earliest. It is unlikely that the selectors will drop Rohit or Kohli before then, considering their ongoing struggles to make a decision on KL, who has demonstrated mediocrity throughout his 51-Test career. Regarding Siraj, he may be rested or dropped if Shami is fit and available. However, due to the lack of backups created since the dropping of Umesh and Ishant, our fast bowling reserves are limited. Akashdeep has only played 2-3 Tests, while Harshit has yet to play a single game. This situation is exacerbated by Shami's injury since the ODI World Cup last year, highlighting our unpreparedness for such circumstances. For reason unknown Team management is not ready to back Akaash, who has shown he has quality to play ahead od Siraj. Inspite of being mediocre team management is hell.bend on.backing Siraj. For the next 2 test ,Akash and Harshit should get opportunities.

mani sha Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Kohli .. he doesn’t have to face new ball , goes missing in imo matches and can’t remember is last 5 years when he played a match winning knock in tests . Or even t20 rinku singh entry delayed due to kohli. I would even take pandya as a pure batter in tests . Ultimate_Game 1

He's averaging 55 in FC and based on what we've seen, he shows up when going is tough.
