Actual quote

“I only had one tension, that was Punjab (laughs). They had the highest purse. When Shreyas went to Punjab, I felt I could make it to LSG. There was a possibility. But eventually, with auction you never know, so I just thought I would wait and watch, and had my fingers crossed,” he said."

Exactly, can't make that guy happy.

Only few players who deserve it.

I don't think Pant is someone who will take it meekly like Rahul.

What can he do, Goenka is the owner lol

Goenka is the owner.  Maybe he won't bash him openly if results don't go his way but as his employer he will surely question him

Pant needs to become a serious IPL captain to stake claim at the national side captaincy. Hopefully he will do that at LSG.

There is no correlation between captaincy in the IPL Tamasha and serious test captaincy. Rohit is a classic case in point - 5 IPL titles yet clueless in tests.

Rohit isn't winning IPLs for a while either.

Like players, captains also have a shelf life. Dhoni was awful captain towards the end of his career. There are many other examples too.

By the time Rohit was given indian team captaincy, he was way past his shelf life.

Not saying it means anything but BCCI management does value good IPL captaincy. So for Pant for his own sake needs to start captaining his team better than he was doing at DC.

Rohit (or anyone) would still win if you give them peak Malinga,Pollard,Johnson etc.

IPL and T20s is a format which is more influenced by individual performances and captaincy doesn't have much impact on the game. The game is short, moves fast and most captaincy decisions are fairly standard ( batting order, field placings, bowling changes). Rohit was particularly exposed in his test captaincy because he is not a good strategist and captains by rote in tests as he does in T20s..using bowlers in a set order, sticking with fields for hours despite the match situation changing etc. I think Pant would probably be a better and more aggressive strategist for tests. The only issue for him is whether he can channel his maverick side which often makes him lose his head while batting and throw his wicket away rather than making the bowlers work for his scalp.

Craziest management and owners. Just disband that stupid franchise.

Punjab's only fault as a franchise was they could never attract Indian superstars to the team since Yuvraj and Sehwag and KL. couple that with stupid owners who think that changing captain every few matches is the solution..

TBH superstars wont come till success is there in a franchise.. that's why CSK, RCB and MI have biggest fan bases of glory supporters who run after success as opposed to supporting local team. Punjab still deserves a franchise but better owners who dont micromanage and are able to get the right players who click. Lets see if Iyer does anything to change the situation

Punjab have had Sehwag, Yuvraj, Gayle (almost an Indian), Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Sreesanth, Paul Valthaty, Kaif.

Sure I’ve missed a few.
