gakgupta Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I personally believe that varun turned the trophy to India's favour. It's not the number of wickets but the kind of wickets you take and the impact you create with those wickets. He is the man.. But these mystry spinners wouldn't last long.. Does the current generation have even heard the name called ajanta mendis? He created huge impact when he came but didn't last more then 2 to 3 years. 2 questions 1. Will he last long by reinventing himself and keep adding new deliveries ? 2. If not, how long will be last? 2 years? adi B and Vk1 2
jusarrived Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Varun has that faster one which is really difficult to pick and hes pretty sly using those. I think he will do better than other mystery spinners
Gollum Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Hopefully at least till 26 T20 WC. Anyway he is already 33 and may not last till 27 WC, not exactly a natural athlete and no additional skill. BacktoCricaddict and tapandrun 2

Nikhil_cric Posted March 9 Posted March 9 More than fine in T20 cricket. Unsure about longer formats.

If he has his potency till 26 wc (which I believe is in feb march) - him + bumrah + arshdeep + this batting is gonna be amazing. Gollum 1

AKane Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Once the IPL starts and Mayank has a couple of overs bowling over 150K - collectively the entire attention will shift from this event to the IPL and Mayank. It all depends on Mayank. The IPL itself will throw up a few batsmen - the odd Rinku or Riyan etc - who everyone will be crowing about. Starc and Cummins types who took a break from cricket for this non-event will show up for the big payday in the main event which is the IPL. Count the days until March 22.

tapandrun Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Mistery spinner does not last or remain potent during whole career due to the lack of spin and once batters starts picking them it becomes hard. Also even if they do not pick them if they have data say if he bowls 2 legies in an over then they know if he has already bowled 1 and they have couple of balls before he bowls another one, so they can play him as an off-spinner in between those 2 balls. Ind TM has to be smart with him play him only when needed ask if he can add 1-2 more balls, the objective is to be able to use him as pure wkt taker in the upcoming wc. No need to use his v.often play him when needed see if batters still reads him and if he is still on the top of the game or not.
gattaca Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Wasn’t he selected in 2021 t20 WC ? Was he just poor at that time ?
Ultimate_Game Posted March 9 Posted March 9 32 minutes ago, gattaca said: Wasn’t he selected in 2021 t20 WC ? Was he just poor at that time ? He was made inconsequential by our inept batting. They scored 150 against Pak and 110 against NZ. The match was already over by the time Varun came on to bowl and there was no pressure on the opponents.
tapandrun Posted March 9 Posted March 9 40 minutes ago, gattaca said: Wasn’t he selected in 2021 t20 WC ? Was he just poor at that time ? He was there, he was picked half injured plus not much on the board for him to defend when your experience bowlers were not getting any wkt, expecting some1 new to be effective 1st wc match against pak is not a proper planning. to defend 150 Ind needed wkts at the top, plus there was some due Pak batters used sweep to good effect. It was a bad team that was picked full of injured or half fit players. They picked half fit players here as well but rohit and kolhi found form and iyer,kl and patel made contribution with bat and even half fit shami was good when needed. rollingstoned 1
putrevus Posted March 9 Posted March 9 He was awful in t20 in 2021 not that guy like Bumrah was great then. Good redemption story for him here.
crictime Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Even if Varun continues to be a mystery for couple of years the benefits for India in LOI will be immense. Meanwhile, other viable options can be looked at and worked upon.
cowboysfan Posted March 10 Posted March 10 every new bowler now has to learn to bat especially in T20s. tapandrun 1
tapandrun Posted March 10 Posted March 10 No need to play him in the Odis, keep him for t20i only and aim at wc
