Karun Nair has been scoring in all formats definitely deserves to be selected in Indian team. I like this video from Utappa on how he dissects different top performers and no selection in Indian team. Utappa did some homework. I liked this content from him. Indian selectors seem to ignore people who are in 30s and perform well. This is a bit sad if true. Karun Nair might play in India A vs lions in England before the tour he hopefully he scores well.

For the white-ball format No but for Tests (especially in SENA), Yes. Literally everyone at ICF was asking for Sai and Karun to be given a shot in Tests. I was ok with Karun to be given a shot in ODIs as well but Jaiswal and Sai should get ahead of him for the next WC.

Karun Nair's case, exception can be made.

Considering our system was unfavourable to him coz they had to back a mediocre batter. He can still have 2-3 years of run.

We anyway don't have much options in Tests, KL Rahul with his 33 avg, Kohli with his late 20's avg from last 5 Years arent giving much hope.

Not entirely true, these days selectors have been picking 30+ yo player too. Sky, Mukesh, Unadkat, Rajat all are example of this

It use to be thing of past that they wont pick player after 30 and would like to invest in some coming from u19. this has worked for Ind.

The reason some say the u19 players does not get Ind cap after 1-2 season after u19 wc was to stop age fraud and make u19 less lucrative, plus with t20s player game and power game is not developed to come into t20i sides directly.

As for Nair it was wrong to drop him from tst in the 1st pace after getting 300 , after after getting dropped it was not like that he was having massive domestic seasons. Its the 1st time in years that he had a good season so IPL team picked him and he just had 1 good game, as a selectors would some1 trust with 1 good season ???

It would have worked if spot opens up, which spot can he be slotted in.

Ind has far better options in t20s, Odis ???-- kolhi comes and #3, Iyer comes at #5, can nair play at #5 ???and if yes he can be in who goes out.

The problem with selecting a 30+ yo player is that they should be slotted directly into playing 11, there is no point in keeping that player on the bench. They should be able to plug into the spot and perform right away. One would be ok if a newer player sits on bench for sometime but a seasoned player warming the bench it just waste of resource and a spot.

Even in test which number ??? -- Jaiswal and Rohit opens, Gill comes at 3, kolhi at 4  kl, 5/6-- pant/Reddy ?? Who goes out ??

Ind selectors did that with fast bowling they kept selecting Mukesh and Unadkar and they hardly played , sent saini in A tours where did that got Ind team to ??-- In bgt bhumrah was bowled to ground, picked half fit Akash and Pradish and rana made the debut.

Always in favour of picking high potential player regardless of age , if they can perform and make team better and win games player should be tried and given opportunity, but selecting to just bench a seasoned player is useless.

Have not seen the video did uthappa mentioned in which spot they should be tried and whose spot ???

Worth giving him a shot given the state of our test side, infact we should also reconsider Hanuma. Nair definitely has a few years left in him.

I think if he does well with A side ,he will be there as we are very much staring down the barrel as much as our test side is concerned

If SKY whos not that young can have a Hurrah with our T20 side which is meant for youngsters why not him in red hot form

Going after Bumrah one if the top bowlers and scoring runs is no easy task. Even if he doesn’t score for India A he should be selected. I still don’t know why Gill and KL Rahul are selected ahead of him. They never scored consistent runs.

Subhman GIll what has he achieved in Tests after his 91? Seriously. Failed 4 back to back innings in WTC final

Gill and KL Rahul are very in consistent. Rohit and Kohli are walking wickets. We have 4 under performers in our test team. Nair should at least get a nod ahead of these guys.

I like Karun but at 33 it's too late. It's not about being ageist but there's no long term value in picking guys at that age. You need to pick players who can give you 7-8 years at least.

Was it unjust to drop him in the first place? Perhaps .

But you can't redress that by picking him now when there are younger guys who can give you upwards of 7-8 years.

Hope he makes whatever money he can in the IPL for the next 2 seasons.

The thing is such players are useful when there is immediate need for a stop-gap or some spot opens up. There is no point of picking them and keeping them on bench.

Such seasoned players are required to plug the gap, get in playing 11 and do the required job.

Ind dropped Rahane and Pujara to build new player to get some new test players, not that something happened and selectors and team was not aware of this.

some suggested to give him A tours, whats the point ?pandey and saini played or were still playing in A tours what did that give ind??

if there is a slot in playing 11 in upcoming eng tour sure pick him and he should be in playing 11 else there is no point .

Similar opinion.  Open to taking him to England for that one series though.  Maybe first try him out for that Shadow A tour in June.

If he does well then include him in Test squad.

He can still give 4-5 years. We are playing oldies in ROKO. Even KL is 32

I meant India A tour of England in June.

Squad is yet to be announced.  Gambhir will travel with A team as per reports.

2 questions

who should he replace?- I know the oldies Ro and Ko but they are almost done anyways

who are the other contenders for the spot you want him in?

while I feel he was hard done by but too late now. At least he will make more money in IpL after that knock. So good for him.
