GOAT finally retires from test. Thank you my guy for many memories.

He missed his last chance at comeback in last year's Eng home series. After a wonderful performance in RSA, he missed easy runs, 100s. Maybe lost interest.

Retires with a very good test career average of 47. One of the top 7 test batsmen from India. Served Indian cricket well.

Will jaiswal be okay with Abhishek sharma and Vaibhav becoming more popular and earning 5x, 6x more than him? What if that makes him lose interest in red ball? There is no need for strict segregation between the formats, just have balls to drop a player if he is performing poorly in one format

I still consider him as one of the best test batters from India. It's a lot more difficult to maintain a 50 average with the kind of pitches India has been preparing at home. Hoping that his replacement is as good as him.

you mean where Jadeja averages nearly 40 and even Ashwin is around 27-28 (with both having to bat with the tail)

They usually come to bat after the ball was totally softened. If India keeps preparing these turners I highly doubt we would see another 50 averaging batsmen from India.

ATG Test captain for us. He was instrumental in our fast bowlers improving. It's a shame he's average is 46.85. That is grossly underachieving.

Finally the right decision but should've happened a few years earlier. Ending up with a sub 47 average is gonna hurt his legacy. Had a chance to leave on a high with a 50+ average had he quit Tests at the right time in 2021 when it was clear he was past it in Tests. The BGT series in 2020-21 when he came back was the right time for him to quit.

 

Exciting time for the Test team as we'll finally get to see deserving performers (hopefully ) like Sai in Tests.

Lukewarm response to his call. Maybe Operation Sindoor aftereffects, or people had lost faith in his red ball redemption. Anyway, sad way to go. Indian test team owes a lot to his mindset. As great a batsman he was, he will be remembered more fondly for his captaincy and development of fast bowling culture.

On turning tracks it becomes harder to bat later in the innings when ball becomes softer. It's comparatively easier to face spinners when the ball is still hard. Kohli hasn't done jack-shyte in Tests since 2020 and likes of Pant and lower order were the ones pulling most of the weight. Kohli has been the worst performing no. 4 batter over the last 5 years across all teams, and no it's not due to Indian pitches. He didn't do anything anywhere in that time.

 

Pant, Jadeja, Ashwin, Sundar and our bowlers have been the saving grace for a while both home and away. Take out our lower order and the team loses to likes of B'desh and SL.

More than anything, Kohli had great presence as a cricketer; you could not take your eyes off him. He was one of the four most charismatic cricketers I have seen, alongside Viv Richards, Imran Khan and Shane Warne. He was sometimes no angel, of course, as the shoulder bump on young Sam Konstas in the last year’s Boxing Day Test would concede, and he could be petulant and short-tempered, but the ledger is very much in his favour. The game has been enriched by his presence.
