MSD’s great dilemma!

When it comes to retirement, MSD faces a great dilemma: 

 

a) if CSK does well, it earns him another season to play for the fans 

b) if CSK does not do well, it becomes his responsibility to bring it back on the track in the next season 

 

So in either situation, he plays “one more season”! 

 

Since retirement is a decision b/w Dhoni and CSK, I am ok in either way - whether he hangs his boot or straps them back on!

Ya. technically he is not the captain of the season. HE is just a fill in captain. So loss is not on him. He was way too non chalant. Even today his team had an opportunity to avoid wooden spoon. He brought on this pie chucker HOoda and poured gasoline over that hope

If Dhoni is playing in the team then only he should captain the team. Having him in the team and someone else captaining is huge injustice to that captain.

When does he turn 50?  He should play until then. By then he can have 50 50s in IPL, and lift the cup (with some assistance, of course) on his 50th birthday.

He says he has 4 or 5 months to decide. It should be decided by franchisee not him. Sadly the there is a symbiotic relationship between players like MSD and owners.

This is true only if the captain is a meek himself. Lets be honest, Jadeja was an yes man to Dhoni in 2022 and Ruturaj is a kid in front of him.

 

If CSK had a mentally strong young captain like Shreyas Iyer or Hardik Pandya, I am sure they would have made the team their own even with Dhoni in the side.

 

I mean Virat Kohli shown that for few years where Dhoni was playing under him.

Just this morning I saw a car with a "Dhoni" sticker on the back windshield. Typically people here keep their kids' names in that spot. But given how unlikely it is for a kid to be named "Dhoni", the owner must be a Dhoni fan. With such devoted fans all over the country, why wouldn't Dhoni not want to milk his popularity and enjoy the "last season" attention season after season?

Ultimately IPL is as much about entertainment, branding, fan experience as it is about cricket. Sporting component is low stakes compared to international cricket, especially the big tournaments. Let him stay as long as he wants, if CSK fans want to keep worshipping him like they do with Rajinikanth,Vijay, may their wishes be granted.
