Ayush Mhatre could be next Prithvi Shaw going by his technical flaws getting exposed in the U19 series.

Something didn't seem right with his batting even at IPL.  Technically pretty weak batter.

That Angkrish Raghuvanshi otoh has test credentials in him.

Mhatre has flaws ,but these days you rarely make issue about it

Suryavanshi has even more

He's a white ball player did well last year and has a list A avg of 65

He's like Badada Vada, will be good white ball prospect not a red ball specilist

I hope there's a redemption story in there somewhere. A mentor or someone who can help him turn him around.

He has already done one round of redemption. After the failed drug test fiasco, he was fat and out of form. He went to Pravin Amre's coaching academy, got told by Amre to get in shape and get his life back in order. Which he did, found his form in domestics and came back to the National squad. Due to technical flaws or discipline issues, he again started slipping and is at rock bottom presently. To remain sober and fit itself might be too big a challenge for him right now. Hope he doesn't end up like Kambli.

Yeah Suryavanshi is flawed too but he is a left hand dasher with some natural power and timing.  He can be a beast in upcoming years in limited overs.

The Mhatre kid I think would be another poor man's Ruturaj.

Raghuvanshi can be all format or a test specialist going forward.

True.

But, from all accounts, he doesn't seem to have helped himself.  With a little bit of discipline and application, he could have forced his way back in with performances. He is young and has the ability, for sure.

Yes. From R Sridhar's book, even in that Australia tour he managed to piss of a captain as calm as Rahane with his antics. Probably that went against him in selections afterwards.

Don't think so,he too is too young

Lots of things can change, plus he has power and doesn't depend on timing all the time like Ruturaj

He will develop well i believe in CSK

'I made some wrong friends, lost focus on cricket': Prithvi Shaw makes honest admission
Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as a future star, candidly admits to making poor choices and losing focus on cricket, leading to a decline in his career. After being dropped due to fitness issues and going unsold in the IPL, Shaw seeks a fresh start by leaving the Mumbai Cricket Association to play for Maharashtra.

NEW DELHI: Once touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has made a frank and emotional admission about the struggles that have derailed his once-promising career.

In a recent interview, the 25-year-old revealed how poor choices, distractions, and a shift in priorities led to his decline, both on and off the field.

“There are a lot of things. It is different for people to see. Because I know what has happened. I can understand it. I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot. For example, I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting. I used to go to the ground for half a day. I admit that there was a distraction,” Shaw told News24.

“After that, I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top at that time. Friendship is also formed. Then they took me here and there. All those things. Then I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."

Shaw, who made a dream Test debut in 2018 with a century against the West Indies, quickly rose to fame, even drawing comparisons with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

But over time, lapses in discipline and fitness saw him fall out of favour. From being dropped by Mumbai for poor fitness to going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, the downturn was steep and public.

Now, the right-handed opener is looking to reset.

Shaw has officially parted ways with the Mumbai Cricket Association, seeking a fresh start with Maharashtra as a professional player.

In his letter to the MCA, Shaw expressed gratitude for their support but said he believes a move is necessary for his growth.

While he made brief comebacks, including a stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, consistent performances remained elusive.

With a new state team, a renewed mindset, and honesty about his past missteps, Prithvi Shaw is aiming to turn the page.

Whether this marks the beginning of a redemption arc or a slow fade from top-tier cricket remains to be seen; but for now, he’s choosing the hard road back.

Very sad to see Prithvi Shaw go the Kambli way. He had everything in front of him and he frittered it away. Now he's back of the queue and with the batting talent India has, he may never get another chance. He was a natural successor for Sehwag and is nowhere to be seen.

He is a goner. I expect Raghivanshi, Yash Dhull finding a spot before him

A place in the Indian team is too much to expect but getting an IPL contract is somewhat realistic.

I still remember watching his 50 in NZ on the greenest pitch ever. Looked in total control and class above the likes of Kohli,Pujara, Rahane etc.

Rare talent.

I have some hope that he can redeem himself. He is only 26. Some people mature later than others. And unlike Kambli, he is born in era with much better counseling and sports psychology help available ... If he wants it.

The ship has sailed. Too much competition now. Maybe should develop bowling a bit

I don't see any openers kicking the door open. KLR may last 2 yrs. Then? I don't even see a steady #3, besides Sai Sudarshan.

If he dominates domestics for 2 yrs like he has done before, who knows?

Agree on Raghuvanshi. He is the best among young batsman suited for test cricket outside the squad.

Mhatre has got good hand eye coordination and seems to have that extra second to pick length. He is just 18 and could become a very reliable player in future
