‘Bumrah bowls 5 overs and waits for Joe Root to come out’: Gambhir, Gill slammed; ‘If Ben Stokes can bowl 9 overs…’

He has won countless matches for india. He takes a 5-fer every 3 matches. Expecting one player to perform everytime and win everytime is not ok, no one did that even for Bradman

The hate is unbelievable, particularly for someone who supported a player who was a passenger in the team for 5+ years

There is no hate and he has not won countless matches. Stop bringing Kohli into every discussion.

Bumrah has stunk under pressure all his career. If he was any good under pressure India would have won lot more silverware.

Gambhir is an idiot. Last 1 year statistic.  Both stokes played 11 tests. Look at the disparity in number of overs both bowled. Plus he plays T20, ODIs, IPL. Also look at the performance. ONe guy is averaging 16. Other one averages 34.  WHy didn' Stokes bowl like AKash deep in the 2nd test? They celebrate him whatever he does. We go after Bumrah whatever he does

Bumrah is getting the same treatment Sachin used to get when he was on top.

Other players are judged for their success even if they barely contribute in most other matches. Bumrah, like Sachin is being judged for his failures even when he does succeeds in most matches.

A lot of these arguments I see, like he only performs when we lose etc are copy paste of the ones which was used to criticize Sachin

Thats the problem with being incredibly consistent. You start getting judged for your failures and not your successes.

Yup victory is based on a lot of things. If Brydon Carse did not strike on day 4  Indai would have walked this target it doesn't matter Stokes bowl 20 overs. India was uber nervous in the closing day.  Gill perished solely due to that.  Also he realized his catch drop cost him the Ashes test as Lyon and CUmmins added 55 for 9th wicket and won the test. Where was this stokes then? INdia just collapsed under self-induced pressure.

Disheartening to see so much hate directed towards Bumrah, that too by our fans. He put his body/career/future on the line for his country in Aus, still questioning his commitment?

He has won us more tests in SENA than any other players, gap isn't remotely close. He is the first fast bowling ATG to emerge from this country which neither understands the art nor respects it.  People don't understand how demanding fast bowling is, and underestimate the injury concerns, one more time he blows his back and it is over, like Shane Bond. Still he continues fighting, could have easily retired from red ball as an easy way out.

Just last one year he has won us a T20 WC from an impossible situation, was one man army in the toughest country to play cricket.

Moreover this loss has nothing to do with bowling. Fault entirely with top order.....then those unforced errors like dropped catch, run out, even team selection wasn't right.

Sometimes I feel this country doesn't deserve such a gem. Even Pant, Jadeja are frequent targets of misdirected anger. But questioning the commitment of a guy like Bumrah is where I draw the line.

I don't think anyone doubts in bumrah performance

But him not being available for all matches and having to be wrapped in wool during a test match is not ideal as it disrupt team dynamics

Also for him personally it's better he focuses on ipl and WC 2027

I think as a indian player there are following big challenges to achieve as a team

ODI world cup

20-20 wc

WTC

Test series win IN England

Test Series win IN Australia

Others don't really matter

Bumrah has achieved 2 of these and I think WTC and England test series are out of bounds so maybe he can focus on WC 27 and IPL atleast after this WTC

If something goes horribly wrong, Stokes can still play as a specialist batsman.. it would be curtains for Bumrah. Apt comparison would be with Archer

Archer hasnt been available for 4 years but Eng still carries on developing their pacers and making a pipeline.. what does BCCI do?

SRT was playing for a medicore crap team for first half of his career! Bumrah debuted for the number one test team of his time & yes his numbers in key games are really poor -

Why is it so hard for many of you to admit he is a choker? Ok one off tests or series he'd done relatively well but KO or any finals(?) he's been well below par -

Hoe can bowlers choke lol idiocy at best. They can always correct a mistake in the next ball. Every bowler have gone through situations where they couldn't buy a wicket like Warne in India. May be we drop dollies may be our back up sucks. May be batsmen just try to see him off. In bumrahs case all of the above.

Posted

Batsmen get one delivery to get out , so choking applies more to bowlers than batsmen.Bowlers have multiple chances to make impact.

Any bowler can bowl a jaffa or get lucky wicket  like strangling down the legside for batsman to get out.

Our Genius has missed out in not just one but in most pressure matches.

Stokes's way is the only good way. How dare Bumrah bowl short spells even if he took more wickets :orderorder:

Wonder why he refused to bowl like this at Edgbaston lol He knows there is nonpitch variation. No slope to help him

Our chances definitely don't depend on Bumrah in 2027 world cup. He was there in 2019 and 2023 not to mention 2017 CT.In all three he played a major role in Indian not winning those cups.

How well Indian batting does if and when they reach knockouts will determine if India wins 2027 world cup.

Bumrah is a fantastic bowler and once in a generation one at that. We are actually asking him to retire at the age of 31? For what reason? Do we have multiple great bowlers waiting in the wings? You cannot compare Bumrah with Stokes. Stokes is an all-rounder who does not bowl a lot unless he is playing against some major teams. Some bowlers are workhorses who can bowl long spells, India had someone like Bhuvi who could do that. Siraj can bowl long spells. Some bowlers like Lee, Akthar, Bumrah, Archer, Starc, cannot bowl 8-9 over spells. Pathan being a bowler should realise that. Making every former player a TV presenter/expert has made the field pretty diluted. Not everyone who played the sport can be good analyst. Pathan seems to be similar to Sanjay Manjrekar who likes to praise opponents and put down our own players.

What Pathan said isn't a great analysis either. He is talking like those uncles sitting at a tea stall discussing cricket without any knowledge of the game and how it works.

Bumrah has played in 47 Tests and India have won 20 of them where he has picked up 110 wickets at an average of 14.5 with 9 5 wicket hauls. Lets look at some on Asia great bowlers, Wasim played 104 Tests and Pakistan won 41 of those, Wasim had 211 wickets at 18.48 with 13 five wicket hauls. Waqar had 14 wicket hauls in 39 wins. So Bumrah has done better or equal to other Asian greats. So why are we targetting Bumrah here? Pakistan arguably had a better Test team than India through Wasim's career as well. Teams winning depends on your backup bowling and batters scoring runs etc. You cannot expect one bowler to win Test matches. Lets look at Richard Hadley, who went through a similar phase in his career. He was NZ's best bowler in an ordinary team. Despite having a great bowling record of 431 wickets in 86 games at an average of 22. NZ won only 22 Tests of the 86 he played. This does not mean that he was a bad bowler or did not help NZ win. He averaged 13 with 17 fifers in the wins. Bumrah just has been unlucky where India have been messing up some good winnable games. The Drop catches haven't helped the team as well. Harry Brook dropped on a low score in the first innings at Lords allowed England to get to 387. So many mistakes and we start blaming the one consistent good performer in the team and want to drop him?

Please don't bring ODI and finals into this discussion. We are talking about Tests here.
