What is ailing Yashasvi Jaiswal?

He had a great start to his career. He averaged 88 in season 2023, 63 in 2023/24, 40 in 2024, 32 in 2024/2025.

In year 2025, he is averaging 29. His career average has dropped to 48. He averages 60 at Home, 40 Away.

His home record is not stellar as well, excluding his 2 200s on Rajkot and Vizag pitch, his home average drops below 40.

He has played 26 innings away from home, 10 of those innings he failed to reach double figure score, with 5 ducks. 0,0,0,0,0,2,4,4,4,5

He has played 19 innings at home, only once he failed to reach double figure score, with 0 ducks. Just one low score of 5

Also he is failing to convert 50's into 100's, he has 12 50s and only 5 100s. Gill is polar opposite, 7 50s and 9 100s.

His catching lately also leaves a lot to be desire. Is he just low on confidence or have opposition teams worked out his weaknesses.

Nothing, he is young. Will mature with time. Even Gill only started maturing last year and he has two years on Jaiswal.

Constant improvement is the name of the game. Nothing is a given at that level. What is a bit worrisome to me is - for constant improvement, you need perceptive coaching; is he getting it from the current India staff?

Bit too excitable. Will be fine at home but needs more patience away

He has to master the art of leave. Even tight leave. A lower order batsman like Sundar leaves the ball more decisively.  Either he has to stand outside or stand on the off stump let go of everything to comes at him

Jaiswal needs to concentrate harder for his first 30 balls or so. Does not seem disciplined enough at this stage. It is not easy to counter the new moving ball.

Plus he needs to work on his forward defense against pacers. Needs to move his front foot more decisively forward against the fuller ball and stop defending with an angled bat or push at the ball.

This is not a T20 and there is no upside to a mild push. Either leave the ball  or defend with a dead bat if leaving is impossible or play a decisive stroke.

He is very young and the batting coach needs to guide him here.

Both Gavaskar and Aaron analysed it well. He is moving at the time of contact sometimes for one and in anticipating the ball leaving him he is playing down wrong line to balls coming in and missing it in a big way.  He also should tnink about shortening the backlift which is probably a result of T20 cricket. Both gill and Rahul have done it.

He probably stand outside the crease or take off stump guard and leave angled at him.

Ya. that is why his edges carry to slips. It shouldn't. With low backlift with soft hands ball won't carry to slips.

Hope he doesn't go Kambli and Shaw ' s way.He has achieved from the humble beginning and may be success has spoiled him.

There were issues of while playing for Mumbai with Rahane and coach.

There were several attitude, disiciplinary problems of Jaiswal reported in the past and even he wanted to leave Mumbai team.

It has nothing to do with attitude problem. He is trying to get adjusted to new conditions. Each tour is a lesson.
