Nobody missed them ,only their Die hard fans missed them.

These 2 should have been dropped from the team last year only. 

Pretty sure we would have drawn the Melbourne test at least .

A 2-1 defeat in BGT against an ATG Australian team in their den would have been respectable tbh .

Kohli should've been kicked out in 2021 after the BGT win with Rahane anointed captain for the next 3-4 years, and Rohit dropped in 2022-23. We lost winnable series due to them, and they were the reason why we didn't reach WTC Final early this year. They were the reasons we lost at home to NZ and lost in Aus. Without them we easily beat NZ and probably draw the series with Aus.

Rohit was never a factor in away tests. At times it was embarrassing, he was lazy and unfit.

 

Kohli was finished 3 years ago. His fall from grace was astonishing, he ended up at bottom among Fab 4s. At one point he was second only to Smith.

 

Same could be said for Ashwin, he stayed for too long and cost India home series loss vs NZ.

Yes their poor returns would have made it difficult for us.

 

Also another big positive was coverage's focus was totally on cricket and performers of the day be it Gill, KL, Jaddu, Washy, Siraj, Boom, Pant, Akash. No PR promotions, what Kohli eats, how the king kohli runs so fast, how his 35 runs were crucial etc.

Yep as much as it is a great series result, the flat pitches worked in our favour; this same team would have struggled in say 2018 and 2021 conditions just as we did back then

 

As good as Gill is, is he really a "700 runs in England" level player?! 

 

Leads to a broader question about quality of test pitches, England wanted it this way because they're own batting is limited technically, so no complaints... just masks flaws in both teams

I am speaking from his legacy-perspective, not the team's. The team and fans should beg him to stay. That's how you retire.
