There was a time when Rayudu was averaging very high in FC and even Manish Pandey but neither made it because they were both batting at #5 or below in their domestic sides. I said it during last Ranji season, Mumbai need to give this guy a run at #3 but they didn't do it. rollingstoned 1

There would've been some assessment based on his reaction time against high pace etc. I am just looking at the fact that he has played 6 tests and has scored a 150 and 3 50+ scores during his stint. I don't see how these perceived technically deficiencies didn't stop him playing and performing well in India only to be summarily jettisoned in all following series even when there were spaces in the order. Basically the message is - "your career is over now that the new chief is in town however hard you work on your fitness or your game" Not great. Ultimate_Game and New guy 1 1

I said he's not seen as someone with a particularly high ceiling against pace. He played 3 Test matches under GG and even played for the A team in England. You can disagree with that thought process . My only point was it's still from a cricketing POV and not some personal vendetta. Auqib Nabi was comfortably the best seamer in Ranji last season and took 44 wickets - same as Gurnoor has taken in his entire career. But Gurnoor has been backed to play for the A side.

tapandrun Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 (edited) The General problem with this set-up is they are making it a project, trying to create players out of bit and pieces low potential players. Trying to create multiformat players, even when there is huge talent pool. One can understand this strategy when NZ or even Aus does it as the pool is not so huge. No team plays a specialist off-spinner in white-ball but Ind does who bats at #7 without any power game. players like jaiswal can be legit 3 format player but plays 1 format. Do not think any team (be it NZ, Aus, SA, Eng..) will pick Gill over jaiswal in T20is as an opener. His issue is also that he is not playing for top2-3 ipl teams which have power to push their player into Ind side Some players are selected just to shut sm voices favouring those player and once given few chances then are not picked. In Sarfaraz case he might not be v.good vs pace but the reason he is not being selected is there is no ipl team backing him or pushing for his selection Edited October 21, 2025 by tapandrun Gollum, Ultimate_Game and Vk1 3

Never mind that he has succeeded every single chance he got in every level. This concept of having different rules for different players is what's keeping us from reaching the next level. That's why players like Jaiswal, Rinku, Sarfaraz don't get their fair shot despite doing everything to deserve it. Right now India's selection is more PR than anything else. You have to play for the "right" IPL franchise (MI, RCB, CSK) to get ahead. With Gill as the golden haired child of Indian cricket even GT might join the other three. RR and KKR are the ones who're adversely impacted. Jaiswal hasn't been given his chances, and in fact was dropped from T20 despite performing extremely well and much better than Gill. He averages 36 with a SR of 160+ and has better numbers in IPL as well but it's Gill who's forced across the formats. Same with Rinku who averages 57 in FC and almost 50 in List A but can't get in. He did great in T20Is but is the first one to be dropped. But Gill will never be dropped despite laying eggs in multiple tourneys and finals - 2 WTC finals, CT final, Asia Cup final. If it had been Jaiswal, Sarfaraz, Rinku or Pant with these performances they would've been banished forever. tapandrun, New guy and Gollum 3
Suhaan Posted October 22, 2025 Posted October 22, 2025 GG wants meek submissive individuals around him I don't rate Sarfaraz either, but if someone is performing consistently in domestics he should be in contention and make the main squad Paddikal is a joke anyway Gollum 1
