I think they have gone with him because he hit 33 sixes this SMAT +top run getter+scored a 100 in SMAT final day before yesterday 

Indian conditions ,grounds he maybe a backup option

Fielding & fitness standards are terrible in selected squad.

 

Can't catch, slow in the field & lots of pot bellies.

Surya and Agarkar keep saying "we want the keeper to open". Where was all this gyaan when they shoved Gill down our throats? Wonder if they just wanted to try Gill for a few games and test him out as an all-format player and if it fails like it did, go back to the tried and tested opening duo of Samson and Abhishek

They just wanted to try if he succeeds as an all formats player.

Finally a team I can get behind with heart and mind.

 

The heart anyways and always beats for India, but the mind finds it difficult to support many team selections.

That and they have decided that WK opener is the way forward as a combination which meant the only back up to Sanju is Kishan given his smat and international experience

Credit where due. It would have been easier to double down in pride and stick with Gill but they've recognised it is not working
