Most experts rate him easily above Wasim, and arguably the best ever. There always be an up and down. In terms of variations, pace, performance across continents, Bumrah is way ahead of Mcgrath. Obviously, the lack of a Shami, red hot Ishant and the average replacements will have some effects on Bumrah. However, that is still not visible as much. For me, McGrath is #1 because of how he always stepped up in big matches, and his record against the best batsmen of his era. Longevity is also a thing, it is one thing to average 21 but he did it over a span of 124 tests which is nuts. Bumrah also needs a few defining performances in WTC finals, WC SF/F etc. Or a prominent role in a marquee series win, the series coming up in NZ later this year is a good opportunity for him, since NZ has been his nemesis.

For me, top 10 of all time (not including active players) is 1. McGrath 2. Marshall 3. Ambrose 4. Steyn 5. Akram 6. Hadlee 7. Lillee (he was the pioneer) 8. Donald 9. Roberts (another pioneer) 10. Anderson (volume makes a case) Garner, Holding, Waqar, Imran, Pollock, Walsh, Trueman, Snow, Mitchell Johnson etc. probably in 11-20 spots. Bumrah, Rabada, Starc all should make top 10 by the time their careers end...former 2 perhaps even in top 5. Cummins in 11-15.
