BCCI’s options post Pakistan boycott

Recommended Posts

Posted

This is a intended to be a data / facts driven discussion on the options before BCCI in the aftermath of Pakistan’s boycott.

Primarily:

1.  What punitive actions - if any- can BCCI execute against PCB in the short/ medium and long terms?

2. What are the options before PCB?

3.  How will other boards react?

Opinions and factual commentary.

An initial evaluation of the situation seems to show that:

1.  The ICC will send a notice to the PCB and some punitive action

2.  PCB’s options are to seek redressal with ICC’s internal Dispute Resolution Committee, and only after that with the Switzerland based Court For Arbitration of Sport (CAS)

3.  Separately broadcasters may seek legal redress against PCB.

4. For PCB, what’s at stake:

- around  $38M may be at stake in broadcasting revenues for this tournament

- separately $34M in ICC disbursements

- NOCs to foreign players to participate in PSL

#4 can be regarded as levers ICC can deploy to take punitive action against PCB.

2008 IPL all over again here.PCB was led by an idiot who overplayed his hand and tried to use NOCs as a weapon. Now they are begging to play in IPL.

Same thing here this idiot Naqvi  is overplaying his hand by using India -Pakistan match as a weapon, ICC will continue to play cricket and PCB will be begging.

A team boycotting a WC match is nothing new.

A team boycotting WC match is not new but  refusing to play again one particular team on a netural venue while wanting to play other teams in the same venue is new.

Australia gave walk over to SL in 1996 by refusing to play in SL.But they played SL in finals.Same thing in 2003.

Here Pakistan is not wanting to play India but they want to play other teams at Indian expense as India is host on same venues

I don't get it. First no one wanted India to play against Pakistan. Now that they have shot themselves we are upset how can they not play. I want BCCI to not say anything. I don't want to see discussion on tv. Infact i strongly urge mods to merge all these threads. More power to Pak continue boycotting

No one is upset, lot of people are trying to understand the reasoning. On what ground they should be allowed to play other matches is the question.

Didn't they try to pull similar stunt in Asia cup trying to boycott a match due to umpiring.

BCCI by itself won't do anything as it already banned Pooks from IPL/bilaterals and won't tour.

What it has done is give green light for atleast:

1. No more Ind-Pak matches in group stage

2. Recover financial losses from Pak

Later:

1. Pakistan get lesser percentage share of revenue

2. No ICC tournaments in Pakistan

3. Lesser allocation of matches in FTP

BCCI can:

1. Blacklist PSL associated people from playing in IPL/IPL affiliated leagues

2. Buy up more teams and ban Pooks

3. Expand IPL with more teams etc which further limit players playing in PSL etc

Reason - they are Pakistanis. They are dumb.

Pakistani are equating this with India not travelling for CT. Idiots, imagine India withdrawing from CT pak match after all the effort to move India games to Dubai.

If I am at BCCI, I will seek compensation for loss of revenue,

I will seek compensation to reputational damages from ICC.

I will seek fairness and equality from ICC so that this attempted and cordinated scheming of PCB do not play in minds of ICC when rewarding future tournament rights.

If I was ICC

I will fullfill all three demands of BCCI. For example next 10 years of PCB earnings can go into funding losses of BCCI. That also includes PSL earning share too.

Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have to pay for reputational damage and hence 2 votes of BCB and PCB can be excercised by BCCI for say next 10 years.

Both the teams should have to requalify for every ICC tournament (that includes test tournament).

However ICC can differ on this for one team as long as who engineered this whole fiasco is named and condemned by other Board. ie BCB can give it in written that PCB schemed whole thing

This is case of Munirism where Pakistani think that they are Superior to Indians because they are Islamic Civilisation of Great Caliphate Turkey, hence they wont play Indians. ICC must resolve this and also see it as a case of persecution based on religion.

They are dumb but others are not .They should be held liable.

If they don't play India, they should be kicked out of the tournament. It is that simple. Everyone will move on from them after this tournament anyways.

ICC's loss of revenue is not the question here. One tournament since they have pulled this stunt in last minute so it may have some effect but everyone will adjust

Pakistan is a boil that has to be lanced one way or the other from the Indian team's schedule. They may end up with the right result despite getting there via a circuitous route  - i.e no Pak India cricketing relations whatsoever.

The immediate issue has nothing to do with the BCCI as such.

It is an ICC tournament and the ICC will impose penalties on Pakistan and the BCCI should refrain from issuing statements.

The BCCI is a member of the ICC but it should act in concert with other boards not unilaterally.

All this does is to show the short-sightedness of the BCCI chasing Indo-Pak matches purely for commercial reasons despite worsening relationships ( 3 games in a row on weekends during the Asia cup !)

No India was host of Asia cup, you want India to boycott their own tournament. It is like saying India should boycott world t20 since India has to play Pakistan before this fiasco.
