Mariyam Posted May 13 Posted May 13 @rangeelaraja The Jamnagar refinery itself is a state-of-the-art facility which is currently the largest of its kind in the world in terms of output. It is able to process Complex crudes and that is a result of the R&D carried out on the plant over the last 25 years. Lord 1

People complain about lack of big name tech firms from India - this is the reason why. Most of our high tech firms are startups - who are sponsored by family offices of billionaires from IT sweatshop companies or by sharks like SoftBank or Chinese vulture firms. The big firms in Corporate India are an utter disgrace - the biggest being RIL. Not a single world class global tech product - all the money made through the refinery business is used to enter legacy industries and establish new monopolies there. Innovation involves discovery risk. The traditional merchant classes that controlled the capital are used to ROI maximization are not really driven for exploring new avenues. Of course, it is changing. Lot of non-mercantile enterpreneurs (and some selected bania ones), encouraged by foreign capital and own passion, are giving it a honest attempt. rangeelaraja 1

It is state of the art in terms of being able to refine crude of all varieties and complexities. But it is a legacy business. I am referring to consumer and and enterprise tech. How many people know of RIL outside of India ? How much money have they invested in R&D of consumer and enterprise tech products ? Anywhere in the value chain ? Is there a single known global product coming out of Reliance industries ( be it consumer or enterprise ). Zilch. I ask this question because they are not purely a refinery. Jio is in several businesses. RIL's business model is to use the refinery as a cashcow and then use that to create monopolies in other industries in India and using their political clout to their advantage. With the refinery being their bread and butter - they could have ploughed in that money in new age industries for R&D and India would have some tech sovereignty - right now it doesn't at all. India's IT services sweat shop firms are to be blamed even more. Focus on purely wage arbitrage low cost IT services - zero appetite for innovation and R&D.

It is mostly first time first generation entrepreneurs - most of whom are in the 25-45 age bracket. The level of tech talent in India is mind boggling and it has not been allowed to bloom because of very low appetite for risk capital. My firm is invested in more than 10 tech start ups based in India - drones, Space and Agritech ...and the biggest partner investors are all from outside of India. Not a single large corporate has backed these ventures - even with seed capital as low as $500K. Several similar India based startup firms have moved to Dubai and Singapore, because they find it easier to raise capital there. I entirely blame legacy corporate houses in India for us being in such a state. Edited May 14 by rangeelaraja

Almost 3rd time in last 10 years the paper is leaked. The NTA would have been started because it was deemed important. However, given that if it is failing so many times as you say, then a proper review needs to be done. It needs to be decided whether to continue it or stop because as things stand it is now time waste for students and waste of national resources every few years.
Lone Wolf Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Absolute bonkers...I saw a headline in the morning or TV and thought it was maybe about a Sub Saharan African country.. and it turned out to be UP. @Gollum turns out HDI is exact indicator of where things stand. Nonbeliever Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Everybody is corrupt. Not only the persons who leaked the question paper but also the parents of students who bought paper for lakhs of rupees and then Students who prepared from the question papers. Just imagine what kind of doctors are in making. Not only mentally weak but also morally corrupt. diga 1

Vancouver Posted May 19 Posted May 19 (edited) Netherlands PM expresses concern over press and minority rights during Modi visit - Quote Mr Jetten was speaking to the press ahead of the meeting when he was asked about concerns over the state of press freedom and minority rights in India, according to the newspaper De Volkskrant. “It is not only about press freedom but also about the rights of minorities, who are under severe pressure. That applies in the first place to the Muslim community but also to many other smaller communities,” Mr Jetten was quoted as replying by the paper. “The concern is to what extent India remains an inclusive society where the same rights apply to everyone.” According to Mr Jetten, such concerns were “regularly raised” with the Indian government. https://www.independent.co.uk/asia/india/narendra-modi-netherlands-visit-india-muslim-minorities-b2978591.html Edited May 19 by Vancouver
