Yes. It is not one or the other. You can have your personal belief. But a trophy won by multi religious people should not be usd for religious promotion. I am sure this will be a political promotion pretty soon. Was 1983 cup taken to temple? No. Nobody tells cricketers not to go to their temple.

This isn't newsworthy, just clickbait and manufactured outrage by a certain section who never cared about Indian cricket or us winning. 

 

Had a Muslim/Sikh/Christian player or BCCI official requested for the trophy to get blessed in another place of worship, and had that request been denied, tab jaake yeh ek controversy hota. And I would have blasted BCCI if that were the case. 

 

As far as I know, maybe some Catholic church would have indulged in such a ritual. For Protestants, Muslims, Sikhs, this is against their fundamental code.

Do you think an ancient religion like Hinduism needs a 2 takke ka trophy for its promotion? 

 

They have taken the trophy there for blessing, and to express gratitude to the deity. Maybe must have made a prayer there before, and now that they found success, they are going there as a symbol of gratitude.

Saying “anyone else could take it to their place of worship” doesn’t really solve the underlying issue of neutrality. Just because someone can do something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Having the power or opportunity doesn’t automatically justify the action. Saying “everyone else does it” or “you could do it too” is often a way to avoid taking responsibility.

 

Indian political climate is such that religious symbolism in national events is often interpreted politically, even when cricket players may just see it as personal faith.

 

I personally don't care where they take trophy to, just wanted share my view on ability vs. judgment argument.

Stanley Cup is given to NHL winners. Then that cup is allowed to stay with all players and coaches for one year. 

 

Some players take it to their homes and sleep with it, some take to their parents/friends graves, some take to Churches and use it as sacred vessel for baptism.

 

So if some Indian players take it to temple, what is wrong with it.
