Name the single most memorable moment for you in T20 WC history

There are so many from which to choose.

 

The following came immediately to mind when I started thinking about the most memorable moments. Not necessarily the most impactful for the team etc., but one that stuck the most in your mind.

 

2007

- Bowl-out vs Pakistan

- Yuvraj's 6 sixes

- Joginder Sharma's final over and Misbah's brainfart

 

<Drawing a blank from then until 2024>

 

2024

- Axar's SF catch

- Surya's Finals catch

 

2026

- Axar's catch off Brook

-Axar-Dube relay catch

- Not a single moment - but the whole Samson revival

 

And, to me, the winner is: Yuvraj's 6 sixes. The argument with Flintoff that led up to it, the sheer audacity of his shots against a decent bowler, and the fact that it has not been repeated since then all make it the single most memorable moment for me in T20WC cricket. Nothing like it.

Most dramatic has to be SKY catch. Because when they panned the camera Smith was about to call it a six then he held himself back to make sure it was not a catch.

2016 - That 2 off 3 choke-job by Bangladeshs, Kohli's epic knock against Aus to reach knockout

2022 - Kohli's MCG magic

2024 - Rohit's takedown of Starc, Bumrah's magic against Pak and throughout the tournament and SKY's catch to dismiss Miller

2026 - Bumrah special and our fearless batting led by Sanju with Dube finishing it off when needed

 

Don't recall too many moments from 2009 to 2014.

Spawned the ipl. India had sent a young side with no proper coach. True underdog story.

That's like selecting your favorite child 

 

If it's just one it has to be the inaugural trophy in 2007. That moment changed Indian cricketing forever and spawned IPL, which opened floodgates for us.

Yuvraj's 6 sixes. Never believed I would see an Indian player do that, particularly in international cricket.  It is what set us up as a contender to win the T20 WC..

Add to that, his insane 70(30) against Aus in the semis

Musfiqur premature celebration

Defending 30 runs in 30 balls in the final

Remember the name: Carlos Brathwaite 4 sixes

Sky catch of miller 

Kohli MCG showdown

Ashwin letting one go 

 

If I have to pick one I’ll go with the 2007 catch to win the cup, it was the first World Cup victory for India since 1983!

2007 is still my fav WT20- the bowl out, Yuvraj 6 6s, Rohit’s knock in the final, Coach Gambhir’s clutch knock in the final, Sreeshanth’s catch, Sreeshanth and RP Singh’s bowling, Yusuf Pathan starting off with a 6 etc 

 

2009- I only remember Jadeja’s knock. Has been stuck since with me. Don’t remember anything either side of it. I think Murali Vijay was our opener f me

 

2010- only remember Jadeja’s getting smacked by Watson. Also trauma healed by Hussey smacking Ajmal. Don’t remember the finals or any other moments.

 

2012- I don’t remember anything except WI celebrating with Gangnam style.i don’t even remember the Ind-Pak match. Didnt  Kohli smack them again?

 

2014-I remember Yuvraj and Dhoni’s knock in the final. Don’t remember anything else. I kinda remember the Ind-Pak match which we won. Didnt Kohli smack them again?

 

2016- Ind Pak fiasco in Kolkata, The amazing Bangladesh Match- one of the craziest matches of all time, I remember Steve Smith playing a crazy shot against Wahab Riaz, The Semfinal, Kohli’s knock vs Australia, Afghan team celebrating with Gayle and co, The 4 6’s to Stokes by Brathwaite- remember the name. This was a aura filled tournament if there was one.

 

2021- 152-0  Matthew Wade :)

 

2022- Melbourne miracle, Pak losing to Zimbabwe, SA losing to Netherlands, India getting owned by England in semis.

 

2024- Pak vs USA, India vs Pak, Rohit assault on Starc, Gulbadin acting vs Bangladesh, The finals, SKY catch, Bumrah bowling at crunch times.

 

2026- Nepal almost upsetting

 England , Netherlands almost upsetting Pakistan. the Zimbabwe resurgence (somewhat), India vs England semis, Shivam Dube the legend.

Non Indian was hussey destroying the chucker ajmal in 2009 and wade destroying afridi in 2022
