Michael Vaughan : " South Africa has to be the stupidest team of the tournament. If they had allowed WI to win against them, India would have been knocked out "

There was an issue created when some1 from Aus camp (think it was hazelwood)said something about how not letting go Eng further by dropping a game.

If SA would have dropped the game vs Wi , that would have meant that there would have been 3 team with 4 points each and it would have gone to nrr, lest assume Ind would have crashed out based on nrr, how would that have changed SA's SF vs NZ.

All he is telling in all these words that Ind should not have won the WC, and if that required a team purposefully dropping the game that was fine by him.

He has been a captain himself , so could there been any instances where his team won/lost just for a certain team not win or progress through the tournament

What a stupid take lol. SA didn’t loose to India but to NZ. Why would any team want to loose

It is not a stupid take if you are in it for reach. Observing Vaughan in social media for a long time he is sort of a pioneer. in farming engagement even before monetization. He knows what triggers indians. We are indirectly making a lot of guys rich. There is a better scenario which he avoided..Robb from Jarrod kimber commbox channel desperately wanted England to lose to NZ in super 8 so that they could avoid India.

if this statement is true then he is actively promoting violation of icc rule

ICC has a specific rule under the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel that prohibits teams from intentionally losing or manipulating a match for tactical reasons. ICC ICC +1 The Specific Rule: Article 2.11 This article is designed to prevent the manipulation of International Matches for "inappropriate strategic or tactical reasons". Examples cited by the ICC include: ICC ICC +1 Deliberately losing a pool match to affect the standings of other teams in the tournament. Inappropriate manipulation of a Net Run Rate (NRR) to influence which teams qualify for the next stage. ICC ICC +2 Penalties and Responsibility If a team is found guilty of this conduct, the Team Captain is held personally responsible and charged with a Level Two offence. Potential sanctions include: ICC ICC +1 A fine of 50% to 100% of their match fee. A suspension of up to two suspension points, which typically equates to a two-match ban (e.g., missing the first two matches of a Super 8 stage).

Glad the way Cook and Mark Butcher said it would be unethical and against the spirit of the game ..also Cook raised the issue that SA were themselves yet to qualify so why would they self sabotage their campaign just to get a team out they had already beaten?

Zimboks are very capable of inflicting a upset win over SA in a must win encounter for Saffers.

Knowing Saf's luck in ICC tournaments this sort of dedhshana 5d chess could have easily backfired.

He was literally flabbergasted when Vaughan said that like "are you serious old man":giggle:

Further SA got literally knocked out in 2022 losing to Dutch despite beating India in group stages.  So why would they risk something like that happening again?

2022 T20 WC,  SA beats India looks strongest side in the group.  Pak Outta nowhere ambushes them in next game.

A KO match vs Dutch and they choke and get knocked out

It is a stupid take since SA did not make the final by being "clobbered", "beaten like a rented mule", "beaten like a circus monkey" in its own SF. Whoever plays the other SF is irrelevant.

SA would have lost to Zimbabwe in a way that tanked their NRR and knocked them out of the SF race as they did in 2007 vs India

You are missing the point why do you think he wants India out lol It would have made sure England face WI instead of India.

He wanted England to face WI lol Nobody wanted England to face India. Check the commbox podcast of Jarrod kimber. There is this hilarious British guy cursing England for not losing the match to NZ to avoid India in semi

But why should that matter to SA? Why should SA care? Vaughan being English is his business - him speaking about SA doing something for England is even more ridiculous than SA caring about the other SF.

That is just for reach. Fact that we are talking about it in a thread is his goal. He got what he wanted.
