If BJP wins Bengal, do they have a Yogi equivalent to consolidate presence and do a clean up ?

Bengal has been rotting for decades - first the communists, then TMC -- pretty much like how UP suffered under BSP and SP.

Yogi has held power for nearly 10 years and UP has gone from strength to strength - be it the roads and infrastructure or law and order, or attracting FDI.

Suvendu Adhikari is no Yogi.

As much as I would like an alternate to the BJP or the Congress to come to power in the center, as far as Bengal is concerned , Mamta needs to go.

The last remnant of the communist party idealogy really needs to go. Get Mamta out of power and then keep her out of power. Bengal can look for better leaders later

West Bengal had INC for 30 years after Independence.

Then they had Jyoti Basu and the communists for ~20 years.

Then Mamta Banerjee and the TMC for 15 years.

My take is that Bengalis give their government time to get their act in place. But once their patience runs out, they are uprooted and not just booted out of power.

Perhaps its the chance of the BJP to go through that cycle.

Time for what lol ? Destruction of state ? Communist govts don’t make sense in India. They lost the industries due to communism. I love Kerala but they also are similar. No jobs and no growth all people flee the state for jobs and don’t want people from other states to come to Kerala to settle.

Deployment of additional forces(700 companies in 2021 vs 3000 companine in 2026) to stop poll violence and post poll violence may have helped. I still believe Bengal needs 6 months of Presidents rule before a free and fair election can be done. Think both India as a whole and Bongs in particular have had enough of Mamata and her goons. But those goons are still there

How is this a reply to my post?

I haven't waxed eloquent on the benefits of Communism.

Dear @gattaca ,

It has come to my attention that you have  ( presumably through no malicious intent ) but through a remarkable lapse in situational awareness, proceeded to mansplain to one of the most revered, erudite, and intellectually formidable members of this August forum.

This distinction has been independently verified by Grok, an AI of considerable repute, which I trust lends the matter appropriate gravitas.

I write to you not in anger, but in the spirit of gentle civic correction.

Should such an incident recur, I shall have no choice but to instruct my Mumbai-based legal counsel, @Mariyam, to dispatch a defamation notice.

Please govern yourself accordingly.

If bjp wins it will be suvendu.

Most likely as BJP did the same with Bihar, assam, it will not choose indigenously grown BJP leader. Sucendu will also bring his faithful  TMC cadre too

When BJP made Himanta ( a Congress renegade ) CM of Assam, the logic was simple: set a thief to catch a thief. He knew exactly how Congress operated, and he went after them with the kind of personal vendetta that only an ex-insider can. His hatred for Congress and their appeasement politics wasn't incidental  --- it was the whole point. BJP hired him for exactly that.

Suvendu is the same story in Bengal. He knows TMC inside out  - their networks, their methods, and most importantly their biggest vulnerability: the illegal Bangladeshi immigrant vote bank that TMC has quietly depended on for years. BJP's bet is that he can gut TMC from the ground up, the same way Himanta gutted Congress in Assam. If BJP wins Bengal, Suvendu stays CM for as long as he keeps tearing TMC apart at the roots.

But Bengal is a harder puzzle than Assam. It's really two problems rolled into one. First, the Assam problem: use a renegade insider to destroy his old party. Second, the UP problem: in UP, BJP had to grind down BSP and SP  - two deeply rotten parties that had spent decades playing Muslim vote bank politics and letting law and order collapse. Bengal has the same thing, just with TMC and the Communists in those roles.

Suvendu has to solve both simultaneously. I am not sure he has the calibre. Time will tell.

Yogi is unique...I dont think there is anyone in Indian politics who has the clarity of thought like him.

Modi was somewhat similar to him in 00s, but Yogi is more determined and unapologetic.

Though I would say that Yogi doesnt have the same oratory skills like Modi does, Modi is expert is playing with words. Yogi says it direct.

Anyway, as @coffee_rules said, lets wait till 4th May. Anything can happen before that, and I seriously mean anything.

Not true...

Congress actually had good leaders in this time back

But Bengal under communists and mamata is a jingle raj...they give sops to rural people and actually built the panchayat raj..so they have strong rural backing

Rest of the state is filled with pessimism.nd no jobs...the unemployed youth are loyal to the party in power and get sops jobs and party funds... They switch party ...so cpm to trinamul and now BJP.

BJP has no visionary leaders and filled with trinamoop turncoats. So it would be the same. They can remain in power for some time as mamata will mostly retire if she loses this time around and there is no credible opposition.

BJP will commit a fatal mistake though if they try to push their garbage Hinduvta recipe in bengal..they will just be rejected...there is a more liberal educated bias in bengal compared to the gawar swag where BJP flourishes. Don't touch language but focus on development .that's the best we can hope for.

It is sad to see people hoping that a leadership change, in democracy, would cover over the fundamental flaws of the underlying society.

If the victory of BJP is one of the signs of fundamental change, I am hopeful. But hoping BJP to engineer a society reset is naive.

Communist rolled for 30+ years post Congress in WB. They came to power in 19 79–80 enrolled till recently 2011. Since then we have. TMC for three terms. All these governments turned Bengal into a poverty state, which was once the industrial hub of Asia till the 50s. Even Gawar swag states like UP, Haryana are doing better than West Bengal shows how much poor these governments have run down Bengal to the ground.

Sarma waited an entire term and sonowal was cm 2016 to 2021. He joined just before 2021. Was told to perform which he did via NEDA.

Logic simple. You need to be in bjp for 5+ years for you to be considered to be cm. Suvendu has already been in bjp for 5+ years.

Samrat Choudary joined bjp in 2017. Started getting good posts 2024 onwards
