Gill as a captain is just going through the motions. Why wouldn't he bring the field in, ask Prasidh to bowl bouncers and have a short leg. No imagination whatsoever.

It was a good knock, the reason he got MOTM is that even though the bowlers did well under pressure their overall wickets tally in that match was not impressive. Virats 76 was nearly 45 % of the runs we scored.

 

No, he got the MoM as he was retiring. If that innings was played aby any other batter, they wouldn't have gotten the MoM award coz that knock/performance was the biggest difference maker.

The difference is that other teams' ceiling is higher. They traded that higher ceiling for inconsistency. And in GT's case they went with lower ceiling and higher consistency. So the result is that other teams may not reach the playoffs more often but are more likely to win the cup. GT will be more consistent and will reach the playoffs more often but are not likely to win the tourney.

 

If your goal is to reach playoffs consistently and not win anything like RCB and Indian teams of old, GT is spot on. But if their goal is to win the tourney, they'll need to change their approach coz they team structure and approach is flawed.

 
The team is not reaching just the playoff but reaching the final. Which means it is beating teams with so called higher ceiling as well. And it has won an IPL as well. 
 

You can keep measuring the ceiling.
