Rohit is easier to remove with little justification required. Gill today at 3 will give you same if not better returns than Kohli at 3 in ODIs. Get Jaiswal to open with one of Abhishek or Vaibhav, yes its a huge risk but then there are going to be days when this risk will payoff big time. What's the worst that can happen? We don't win but we're not winning with 40 year olds in the team anyways who were not able to win in their prime. Gollum Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I think Jaiswal will fade away in 2-3 years time, like present Sarfaraz. Nobody can overcome this extreme level of politics and prejudice. Jaiswal was a breath of fresh of air 2 years back, but these days looks so jaded and depressed, there are external reasons behind his slump. Hope they don't do the same to Bihari wunderkind Vaibhav, though in that case I feel Vaibhav is such a force of nature that these scumbags won't be able to keep him down for long. @Ultimate_Game was spot on about the need of strong home board support, I would extend that to Ambani/Srini/GT lobbies as well. Gollum Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Rohit was given a run of 100 ODIs initially, and his average was in mid 20s, SR mid 70s. Kohli got a continuous run from 2008 and he justified the faith by 2012. Mind you, when these guys debuted, our batting stocks were extremely strong. But senior batsmen, Dhoni, selectors had the foresight to give them game time, by strategically resting and rotating among themselves. Seniors like Sachin, Viru, GG, Yuvi, Dhoni saw the bigger picture and sacrificed their statpadding exercise in bilaterals. Even someone like Dhoni could have played as #3 and become a statistical marvel with 15k runs and 40 centuries, but he played in the tougher #6 position for balance. The 2007 WT20, 2011 WC, 2013 CT wins were because of their foresight. Had Rohit, Kohli been treated like the rookies of today, even they wouldn't have established themselves. Chop and change, in and out, selecting but keeping on the benches for 30 consecutive games, these things shatter the confidence and mentality of youngsters. With Suryavanshi's rise it's better he feels valued somewhere else it might weigh on him. Edited June 23 by rollingstoned Gollum 1
Adamant Posted June 23 Posted June 23 19 hours ago, Ultimate_Game said: Don't think you get it. Problem is not the runs but impact and scoring when it matters. I expect Kohli to fill up his boots in group stages. There're only 4-5 decent teams and in WC format most of your matches will be against mediocre and minnow teams with maybe 2 matches max with decent teams. You expect top 3 to be the highest scorers in LOIs followed by 4 and then 5. That's the nature of the game where top order gets to face majority of the deliveries. The problem starts in the knockouts. That's where our top order has gone into its shell and under-performed. They fill up their boots and score runs for fun before that. And then the knockouts start and they can't stitch 2 games together where they bring their A game. At max they show up for one game (SF) and falter in the finals. I haven't seen Indian top order show up in 2 consecutive knockouts (SF and Final) the way our youngsters did in the recent WT20 where they put back to back 250+ scores! We've seen Aussies show up consistently in knockouts but in ODI WCs stringing together 2 consecutive performances have been beyond us unless the opponent was B'desh in one of the knockouts (2015 WC QF and 2017 CT SF). That's the reason I want impact players and youngsters in the team. They don't fear failure. I don't care about the top scorers or leaderboards. What has it given us? I only care about the trophy. As an example likes of Axar, Dube, Ishan may not be top run getters but they show up when chips are down. In fact I don't recall when Dube hasn't shown up to pull us out of fire. These players may not have the stats or show up on leaderboard but they had impact. And based on what I've seen over the last 3 ODI WCs I don't think a combo of Rohit, Kohli and KL can get it done and I want to go with Jaiswal/Sooryavanshi, Sai, Ishan. I don't want to do the same thing again and want to go with high impact players. The goal is not to show up on the leaderboards but win tourneys. Again with the same crap. They won us the CT, best batsman in semis and finals. Even in WC 23 they were the best batsman in both Sf and F. Sane goes for Wc 24. Why don’t you look towards Pandya who has done nothing of note with the bat even in group stages let alone knockouts. Kohli and Rohit scored 40 and 50 respectively in WC finals, if our middle order was actually better that was a perfect platform to register a 300+ score. The middle order *ed up and that’s how we ended up with 240ish. Stan AF and maniac 1 1

Kishan is a way more of a X factor batsman and maybe a marginally better or same level as keeper. Jaiswal can be back up opener, he can even get in an over or 2 in case of emergency and again has more clutch and x factorness about him than KL. Ro and Ko are not the problem at all. Having said that both shouldn’t continue in Odis after this odi worldcup. I endorse that. However Kohli shouldn’t have quit tests. I feel he has at least 2-3 years of test cricket left in him. I will take a half fit and out of form Kohli than Padikkal, Sudarshan, SKY, Sarfaraz, Patidar or whatever other mediocrity we have tried recently. I believe we might have even played Jurel as a pure batsman ffs.

Rohit played all over the lineup till 2013 that is 6 years after his debut.Kohli made his debut as an opener and played at number 4 in world cup 2011. I wanted Jaiswal to be part of 2023 world cup squad but even after Pandya's injury morons selected Prasidh Krishna who did not play even one match. Moment they came up against slightly chalelnging conditions we were 10 for 4. India will lose anyway. They might as well lose with new players.

Your second part can also lead me to question why Sarfaraz is unable to push out Sai Sudarshan in tests. It is up to selectors and TM on who they will play. When he was discarded from T20s, and Gill brought in as VC, he was much better than Gill that time for T20s. Now he is below in the pecking order.

Biggest PR move by Mumbai lobby, Ritika etc. is convincing people that Ro and Ko can be bracketed together. Moreover Rohit averages 17 in RSA, at 65 SR. Will be 41-42 during WC, well past his peak. And doesn't have the fitness, he was mostly staying in the dugout in IPL games. Kohli we know will field full 50 overs at peak intensity, like he always does. We need an experienced guy, so Kohli should stay. But no place for other 35+ guys. Also I have my doubts over mental midget KL, that is why I want them to give a fair run to Sanju and Ishan. Iyer also, not a fan....he can stay in the probables but his spot shouldn't be a certaintly. If we have Vaibhav in place of Rohit, Jaiswal instead of Iyer, that will be an upgrade for our top 4. Top 4 of Vaibhav, Gill, Kohli, Jaiswal will have perfect mix of youth and experience, left-right combo, and will genuinely be intimidating for opponents. Edited June 24 by Gollum cricspirit 1

If I have to choose between Iyer and KL Rahul and Rohit. I still will take Rohit. Gambhir first will want to kick out Kohli but take Rohit. So he is not dropping Rohit and keeping Kohli. cricspirit Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Its Borderline Insanity to think that we are going to miss Rohit Sharma, if he does not go to world cup in 2027. What will Rohit do? Quick fire 40.. appear selfless.. show calmness. Last world cup was his ticket. He missed it. Guy is hanging on and bothering everybody. I am still a fan and used to defend him years ago. Right now his time is done. Jaiswal deserves a spot. On Merit for the squad (Not playing 11). Not batting order- Gill Jaiswal Kohli Samson Kishan Iyer Sooryavanshi ( unless something goes wrong with his form or fitness) Get make shift keeper KL Rahul out too. I am of the few who like him and he is stylish when he plays his shots but thanks. He will score runs but not when it matters. 2 guys out.. KL and Rohit 2 guys in .. VS and Jaiswal. 3 All rounders including Axar type. 5 fast bowlers. No specialist spinner needed. Thats the 15 member squad. express bowling 1
tapandrun Posted June 24 Posted June 24 While there is a popular narrative that Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently a superior option to Rohit Sharma, the available evidence does not conclusively support that view. In the matches where both have played together, their overall impact has been remarkably similar, and Jaiswal's biggest performances have largely come in games where Rohit also made substantial contributions. The more relevant discussion is not whether Jaiswal is significantly better than Rohit, but whether India should continue investing heavily in aging specialists when multiple younger alternatives are available. For an ICC World Cup campaign, carrying too many senior players is a risk, particularly when succession planning can no longer be delayed. Neither Rohit nor Jaiswal offers significant flexibility outside the opening role. Both are specialist top-order batters, making them relatively rigid selections. This raises a valid question about why players such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal have not received greater backing. Both possess outstanding List A records and arguably offer greater batting-order versatility, with the ability to adapt across both top-order and middle-order positions. The central argument, therefore, is not that Jaiswal is inferior to Rohit or vice versa. Rather, India does not need to persist with an aging core when it already has multiple capable options waiting in the wings. Building toward the next World Cup requires balancing present performance with long-term team development, and relying too heavily on veteran specialists may not be the most prudent path forward. Jaiswal is nt the oly option but one of the option-- Ind can also look towards Viabhav (he bowls las) , rutu can play in mo as well, Padikal not sure of intnl quality bt can be tried he can play in mo too,

Chop and change, in and out, selecting but keeping on the benches for 30 consecutive games, these things shatter the confidence and mentality of youngsters. Rohit and kolhi debut was 15+ yrs back, there is no point in comparing them to today's situation. both were the top Ind talent of the time. Rohit use to perform in domestic and was not able to perform at itnl levels , kohli was good in white-ball intnl even at the starting of his career. And he use to play at multiple slots and mostly when tendulkar was resting, he was replacing him and Ind carried on with tendulkar and when ever he use to comeback Gmabhir was to play at 3 and kolhi getting dropped. As for rohit too he was playing in mo/lower middle order and sometime open as well he was also playing at multiple spots just to get a chance. Do not think he got opening because they saw something in him, in ct warm-ups dk opened and got runs, dhoni didnt play dk bt made rohit open in main event. You can make anything of this situation. Ind captain who was wk saw another wk who was opening and performing makes someone else open in place of someone who scored runs. and this was not the time when teams used to have 2 wks, like they do now Not sure how many runs dhoni could have scored at #3 but there was a time when Ind lacked #4 batter and tm asked him if he can take that spot and he didnt. rohit and kolhi's time was diff. there was not much of ipl and even in ipl no ind domestic player were out performing leave domestic player even intnl players were 2nd fiddle. And right now there are 2/3 openers who are as good if not better then any intnl batters. The clear argument is why Ind team is boxing itself into jaiswal or rohit when they have Viabhav/Rutu/Padikal. The issue with Jiswal selection even in 15 he does not offer anything that rohit is not offering- both can just open and nothing else. And they think if rohit is in 15 he will be in the 11 there is no point to occupying a spot in 15 which can not be used ,they are looking at multi-skilled players and sundar getting into 15 Edited June 24 by tapandrun putrevus 1
