Sachin retirement thread

Sorry' date=' IMO he did not understand and retire. [b']He was made to retire. My point is not that Dravid's form was worse than Sachin or not. Dravid and Laxman were never going to get the same leeway as Sachin. yeh sab understanding, retiring for the team, sab bolne ki batain hai. Mauka milta to inka bhi career prolong hota
No, he was not. He retired after Aus tour. No could have said he would have been dropped and I can certainly he would not have been because his last series in India was very good and if he was not dropped then even Laxman would not have retired and would have been given one more chance. How Dravid's form was worse than Sachin? He was our highest run scorer in England. Sachin did not score anywhere, neither England nor Aus, averaging around 35 on both tour cumulatively. Laxman was certainly poor on both tour but he was good in SA, in WI and then home tests against WI. Even between 2007 when he was not that great overseas, he scored runs at 51 at home w with 7 100s in 23 tests.

Particularly during 2010' date=' Dravid had an awful patch while Sachin was in great nick. Yet there was no similar outpouring of hate for him. Dravid is the holy cow of this forum, the untouchable[/quote'] I said the same about Dravid after Aus tour that he should retire and he did. There is no bias in me for Dravid or SRT. Even SRT saw some years of struggle before around 2006 if I am right but that was a different time, now he is 40 and his prolonged poor form is not going to help the team, as a youngster could use those matches to establish himself in the team. Even in his bad patch overseas, Dravid averaged over 40.

why take it out ? also recent 15 tests give lot better indication than performance 2 years before infact in all away tours dravid did reasonably well to be persisted with yeah not at his best but there were good innings in between and current form of sachin is not comparable to that at all.
Do you really mean that Dravid did reasonably well in all abroad tours? Did he score even a single 50 in SA or England in 2007? In SL everyone bar Sehwag struggled. In Oz 2007, he scored 2 50's.

Sir, on similoar logic, Sachin was our second best batsman in both abroad tours since 2011. Dravid was not even in the top 3 on all the tours. Sachin is struggling and that's for everyone to see.

RD was the captain in 2007 & generally those performances are ignored.. He occassionally had a century every 5-6 matches or so with lots of low scores. With no senior batsman in the team, the onus is on Sachin to deliver.. and hence the pressure

Our whole batting line up of seniors struggled and all those seniors apart from him are out of the team. I am not even talking about overseas. First and foremost thing is to perform at home because you play most of your cricket at home. You do not want to lose that at least home. Once you perform at home, only then you can think about overseas. He has not done that even at home. Dravid and Laxman would not have done any worse at home than what he did.

Sachin Tendulkar will start his 25th year in cricket from november 2013. Time for the master BCCI to milk this achievement for the next whole year till Nov 2014. Sachin may hang up his boots in Nov 2014 after completing 25 years in test cricket. Long live the king SRT and his master BCCI.

Stayed way too long. Longevity aside he wasn’t as good as is made out to be in terms of match Winning innings

needed Dhoni to win him a WC after close to 25 years in the game

Ghanta stayed too long. In his last SIX years of career, ponting averaged over 40 just twice, over 45 just once and NEVER averaged 50 in any of those 6 years

Meanwhile in his last 6 years, sachin averaged over 40, 4 out of 6, with average of 48, 68, 78 and 47 in consequeitve years. After that he played just 1 and half year before retiring.

I have said this before, indians are the biggest self loathers

And that world cup point has to be the dumbest i ever read, teams win world cups. Dhoni would have won lota without gambhir, yuvraj and sachins contribution too

He was named the 2010 WIsden cricketer of the year, announced in April 2011. He retired just 2 years later. In a career that spanned 24 years it's pretty mean to harp on about staying on too long.

One and a half year later. He averaged 48, 68, 78 and 47 in the years before

Meanwhile in his last 6 years ponting never averaged over 50 in any year and averaged below 40 in 4 out of those 6 years

But yeah way too long @putrevus

I remember it was 2010-11 he was in great form was scoring centuries for fun. After that England series everything was bad for Indian batting when they rolled green wickets. We went to Australia lost badly and lost to England in 2012 as well at home. His stay in the end hurt little bit with loosing to England we are poor at trying multiple players and maintaining good bench strength.

Ponting shamelessly overstaying justifies Sachin desperately trying to get to his 100th 100?

Both should have retired after the 2011 WC. In Sachin's case, it was made worse by the absolute drubbings in England, Australia followed by a first home series defeat vs England.

How does a person retire after averaging 68, 78 and 48 in consecutive years? Obviously  you will think you still have form left and try for one more year at least?

He should retire in 2011 after averaging 78 previous year? Why should a person retire when in such form? Because of his age?
