maniac Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 A new look Indian side taking on the best test side in the world what has been your review. For me the way young indian team has shown restraint against some quality bowling has to be no 1. The way none of our batters were overwhelmed by the occasion Of course k ohli Taking apart weak link Tahi (hope I don't have to eat my words) Has been the biggest positives so far Negatives for me has been gifting wickets unnecessarily after doing all the hardwork. So far things are looking good :)
GolGappe Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Positives: Dhoni winning the toss and electing to bat first. Kohli's century Rahane's maturity against the new ball. Negatives: 4 soft dismissals. That's criminal on a day 1 pitch. Run-rate. Right now it's even steven. 300 for 5 would have made it India's day.
vvvslaxman Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 This is probably the best "batting plan" by each Indian batsman i have seen. I am pretty sure Dravid did have some role. Master of leaving the ball. He mentioned talking to some players.
Yoda-esque Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Positives: Dhoni winning the toss and electing to bat first. Kohli's century Rahane's maturity against the new ball. Negatives: 4 soft dismissals. That's criminal on a day 1 pitch. Run-rate. Right now it's even steven. 300 for 5 would have made it India's day. Only Cheteshwar was unlucky, Dhawan was out thought Kohli got the sucker ball Murali got a good delivery Rohit was just being himself Hindsight is always good
Laaloo Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Ishant Sharma will outweigh all the positives when he comes to bowl
jf1gp_1 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 was a fantastic day for a batting lineup which combined has played less test matches than kallis . Soft dismisal and all is part of learning , a set of people who are used to making 250 in 30-32 overs showed so much patience over a period of 90 overs was just great. Yes people didnt convert starts to big score etc look at the way these guys batted. I honestly saw no negatives. Anything over 350 will be a great.
Cricketics Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Positive for me was Pujara and Ajinkya. Kohli and Rohit, I knew would be going to score eventually in 2 out of 4 innings in South Africa. It was how long the patience can be seen from Pujara and Ajinkya who are usually used to playing big knocks back home. They have done exactly same here. So even if they don't have many runs to show right now in this innings (Ajinkya Rahane still not out) they have looked comfortable and eventually would put a good score here in 2nd test if not 1st. So things are looking good for our batting point of view which was our biggest concern. We need to keep putting 350+ and hope our bowling doesn't do bad. And we can actually have a chance of winning the match and even the series. Come on Young India.
MCcricket Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 For me all positives, intent, running between wickets, batting to a plan with patience and good execution, now it will be about putting ur foot down and bowling aggressively and to a plan with good execution and attacking captaincy while bowling as defensive tatcis that work for Dhoni is the sub continent is a recipe for failure
Sean Bradley Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 The best part of yesterdays cricket was none of our batsmen showed any technical difficulties while facing the likes of steyn, morkel, and philander. Everyone right from Mooli to Rahane looked at ease and looked in their zone, negatives would be mental application, Shikhar Dhawan plays the ball on ego more than the merit, mooli applied himself well but if he dont convert starts then he ll not stay there at that level for long. A big positive is improvement in Dhonis batting, he has found his own unique way of playing seam and swing, which will definitely augur well for us in this tour and the future.
Sandeep99 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 The grit, application and discipline were the positives. Run rate was a major let down, but that can be excused given that most of thes guys are new to tests, it can be forgiven.
Number Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Negative is Rohit not cashing in against old ball and good batting conditions. :((
maniac Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Negative is Rohit not cashing in against old ball and good batting conditions. :(( I take it as a positive...he will not make the same mnistake twice....he is still decoding Test cricket and once he does it,it will rain 100's :two_thumbs_up:
tweaker Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I was very pleased by the way Indian young batsman faced a formidable SA pace attack on a day 1 pitch.Virat Kohli was very impressive.Today i hope India put up a formiddable total so that our bowlers can attack.
saneindian Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Batting through the day losing just 5 wickets when the general consensus before the test was this young batting unit will struggle to survive a couple of sessions against a rampaging bowling attack. I don't expect our bowling to bundle Saffers out for 250-275 , but not letting them reach 600 for 5 (like the Eng and Aus tours) and instead restricting them for 400-425 would be a good enough achievement.
Iconoclast Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Dhawan and Rohit being exposed should be a positive... It's better you find out now than in England.
rkt.india Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 We batted whole day is the biggest positive. Steyn and Morkel rarely gave us any lose deliveries.
div Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 positives Rahane and Vijay running between the wickets.
Sean Bradley Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Dhawan and Rohit being exposed should be a positive... It's better you find out now than in England. I guess there's a vast difference between being "exposed" and throwing away your wicket.
adi B Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 catching is a big negative..absolutely messed our chance to end the day on a high
