I would like to add two more innings which came at crucial time in the bangalore test against nzl in 2012,his twin 50s iirc came at important time,both involved in a pship with Kohli.India were 160/5 chasing 260 when he came in and in the 1st innings we were in a same position trailing by 200. We could have lost that test match

Beating Australia 4-0 at home will down as his greatest test achievement. It will be hard to beat any Australian side like that at home again in future. Dhoni was at his best in captaincy then

TBH.....the ones already mentioned in this thread obviously nothing else comes to mind Dhoni doesn't have a whole lot of moments to list but I can say this,as a captain I am glad he has gone,but as a player he will definetely leave a hole......His keeping has gone down recently but He will be India's WK-Bat in all 3 formats in an Alltime X1....no one even comes close.

Sorry I don't want to be very critical on the day when he retired but mention of that shows how hollow his test achievements have been (I understand you are referring to Centurion Test which we lost and Sachin had hit his 50th Test century). If you include that 90 than I would say Amit Mishra's best in test cricket is 84 which he scored in last test of 2011 English tour. That 90 was in dead test match which we lost by an innings.

You do understand Dhoni wasnt a specialist batsman. Even specialist batsmen struggle to score runs in overseas conditions. The ATG keeper Gilchrist averages 31 in India which will give you an idea.

We can criticise MSD in other threads, but this is to cherish his finest moments in test cricket. For me, there are two - one as captain and one as player. As captain, his 8-2 field against Australia at Nagpur that completely stymied them after a big partnership and led to our win. As player, his 76* at Lord's that helped us draw the test and thereby resulting in a series win after we won the next test.
