Adi_91 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 This has happened far too many times and it has happened today. With such a bowling attack like ours, can we realistically expect winning matches abroad in Eng, SA, Aus and NZ? They don't bowl to a plan, come under pressure when the opposition batsmen starts attacking. Isn't it time that we start accepting that without good bowlers, we will struggle outside the SC, even be it against a weak WI? sscomp32, Rasgulla, Garuda and 2 others 5
zen Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I don't rate Ind team that highly esp overseas. The team has to learn to grind it out in the middle overseas I have not watched day 5 live but it appears as if despite have a lead of 300, Ind did not have enough men in the catching position Garuda and tweaker 2
Ankit_sharma03 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) A lot to do with the slow pitch but i would like to see how they are groomed over next 1.5 yr under kumble and whoever the next bowling coach would be. But we need to find a few wkt taking bowler like shami who asks question of every ball not like ishant who balls random stuff Edited August 3, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03 express bowling, zen and Garuda 3
fineleg Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 To be very frank - I am surprised that in the last one or two years, our bowlers have done well in Tests (relatively speaking). I expected far worse. We are a very weak bowling attack, so to win even what we have done in last 2 years is indeed better than expected, and most of it is due to one or two bowlers doing well. Bleed-Blue Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 You can blame poor captaincy but bowlers need to take responsibilty aswell, set there own fields etc. When the going gets tough the tough get going and thats what seperates the good bowlers from the great ones. Even in these tough circumstances,a great bowler would have found a way of getting wickets and this is what india lack. adi B and tweaker 2
express bowling Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 On an easy paced pitch, the batsmen were getting sufficient time to play the ball even if there was some seam movement or spin. The only way to take the pitch out of the equation---- bowl some reverse swinging yorkers at pace but that was not done. Bigg Brother, Garuda, zen and 5 others 8
Bleed-Blue Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Jadeja would have made the difference replacing the toothless Mishra. tweaker 1
Tibarn Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 We as fans can accept this, but it's up to the captain and management to make the decisions. Over the last two tests, based on their statements, Kohli-Kumble have clearly determined that they see Ishant and Shami as our main two pace bowlers and Ashwin as our main spinner. Mishra, Jadeja, Yadav, and any new players may go in and out of the playing 11 based on the pitch/match. Here are their averages by country: Ishant http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/236779.html?class=1;template=results;type=bowling Shami http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/481896.html?class=1;template=results;type=bowling Ashwin http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/26421.html?class=1;template=results;type=bowling We have seen both Ishant and Shami play in every non-Asian country. Ashwin has played everywhere except NZ. However, we have seen Ashwin improve his bowling recently, so I am optimistic about his improvement during our next out of Asia tour. Ishant and Shami haven't really looked any different over the last few seasons. If these two stay as our main pace bowlers, then we are expecting that their performance will improve with Kohli's more attacking field placings. Other than field placings or a new bowling coach, there isn't much a captain/coach can influence if we follow the same selections. tweaker and Adi_91 2

This happened in 2014 during the NZ tour when we managed to draw the test after having taken a sizable lead and then let Mccullum score 300+ in the second innings to save the test. Similar bowling attack and the same result. The simple point is, bowlers not bowling consistently well enough in the same test. 1 hour ago, Ankit_sharma03 said: A lot to do with the slow pitch but i would like to see how they are groomed over next 1.5 yr under kumble and whoever the next bowling coach would be. In fact, Ashwin has done enough to claim that from him. Garuda and tweaker 2

Lala Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I think India should be satisfied with the results as a draw, if WI made 200 target it would have been tough to chase. Well Played Both Teams!!! tweaker 1

Mosher Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) It is the whole bowling team failure and not just the fast bowlers. Mishra bowled poorly. The worst I have seen him bowl recently. Ishant and Umesh failed to pick up wickets when the ball was reversing. Ashwin and Shami are our best bowlers but they too struggled in the 2nd innings. But we have too remember the same bowlers did well in the 1st test and everyone chipped in with wickets. Hope they will bounce back in the next match. We also have to give credit to the WI batsmen. Blackwood, Chase and Dowrich batted brilliantly to pull this off. Edited August 4, 2016 by Mosher express bowling, Adi_91, sandeep and 2 others 5
