The kind of defensive mentality that crept in the 2nd test where we wanted to ensure safety, makes me doubt otherwise...in terms of fielding and bowling Kohli was pretty aggressive but batting was pretty conservative.

Especially with WI showing a fight,India might be a little on the defensive now...not by a lot but just a little.

Had we wrapped this up then sure but this result might change plans.

It looks like whenever I mention Rohit there seems to be an automatic difference of opinion...how about 6 batsman with Rahul at No3 with Vijay back :)

ANyways at this point it is just an estimate and an assumption let us see how it pans out

I was just stating what  Kohli said after the match.

I personally don't want to see 6 batsmen in this particular series because the WI has a relatively weaker attack against whom Ashwin is doing well.  Even if that 6th batsman is Vijay or  Rahul.

But, I agree with you that we were a bit defensive in approach while batting in the 2nd test..

Rohit

Saha

Jadeja

Ashwin

Shardul

Bhubaneswar

Shami

Same except for Rohit. I will still keep Pujara. Suppose kohli gets a freak dismissal, Then Rahane would be a lone batsman. Even if fit Vijay has a bad record in WI. And Rahul has got his century, now time for some low scores. Cant take chances.

And both of the 8th stump bowler should be dropped for a reality check. The replacements may not work but they will get a message that they aren't permanent even if kohli likes pace.

People were saying Pankaj SIngh was a savior in England too lol....Ishant might be average by world standards but he is one of the best we got....I have always said he is not a spearhead material but if we find 2 good bowlers,he is a gun bowler to have as your 3rd seamer...unfortunately Shami is a 3rd seamer at best as well and so is someone like Aron and Bhuvi.

Yadav is the most disappointing of the lot...has all the tools to be a strike bowler but he is just inconsistent....I won't call him brainless just inconsistent

+1.

Ishant would be a very good 3rd seamer.  We've always missed that lead dog bowler.  I still have hopes for Shami if he stays injury free for a few years. He is very young in terms of number of tests played.  And has what it takes.

Yadav?  I think he's a place holder until we find someone better.  Like you said, just not consistent enough.  Virat seems to have invested in him as a long-term project and is giving him maximum opportunities.  He got the new ball before Shami did in the 1st test of the tour.  Let's see what happens next.

Honestly I believe Bhuvi would be a better pick, at least you know he's going to get you a wicket or 2 almost guaranteed with the new ball.   The guy can move the ball - its a rare skill, one that gets wickets.

We have to Try new people whenever possible before we go overseas. The guy is known for Reverse swing in domestic and atleast he ll bowl with full intensity. With ishant we know wat we ll get

Shardul isn't known for reverse swing.

1. Sachin was quite impressed with his ability to bowl quite fast with reverse swing.

2. Shardul has taken 21 wickets in five games at an average of 26.90, with a five-wicket haul yet to come. Those who have seen him bowl know what this 22-year-old is capable of. Shardul bowls at good pace, clocking above 140kmph at times and swings the ball well. With the old ball, he can 'reverse' it too.

Not sure if there is a news that he is declared unfit for next test and there is still some time. But rohit for him Have binny or jadeja instead and they will make same amount of runs as him and will give u overs

WI should drop Bishoo and get in Joseph. Chandrika already replaced with Shai Hope. This would spice up teh contest and who knows.. we may provide Windies enough confidence to start winning tests again..

After this kind of a setback of not finishing things off...I see the same team being played...no way unknown commodities like Shardul getting a shot.

Kumble has more faith in Mishra the genuine spinner than Jadeja so don't see that happening.

Max I can see is Bhuvi might replace Yadav or Rohit being played as a 6-4-1 strategy to ensure no further hiccups

Lol. Bowling failed not batting. No question of Rohit being picked.

Did he call himself LEADER OF THE PACK ?  Haii bagwannnn

He opens the bowling which to me is a wrong decision. Shami and Umesh can instead open the bowling and Shami looks more threatening to pick a wicket as well.

Don't mind Shami opening..looks like Ishant was actually able to gets wics at start then he goes into his lil midget mode and leaks runs later on in the innings.

Just an observation

All our bowlers look clueless when being attacked. I understand kala lakdi troubling them with his batting, but there should have been some strategy in place. I hope they take the WI batsmen a bit seriously in the series from now.
