Bad advice from Kohli and Kumble to Pujara..Asked Pujara to quicken up - Kohli

It could be about strike rotation rather then 6 balls and maidens, Pujara can work on some ways like leg glance , flicks and dabs to keep strike rotation simple as that, although Rahul should take his time n not attempt unorthodox strokes atleast play proper cricket till he gets to 50 as he can score fast naturally

The best approach is to play according to the match situation and  playing conditions..... it would be ideal if a batter can be flexible in his approach and up or down his gear as per need of the match.    Just hang in there, irrespective of his SR, when a match needs to be saved and really score fast when his team needs to declare etc.  

 

Putting away the bad deliveries is always important and having 2 or 3 batters in the team, who can dominate attacks, is also needed.

Pujara generally has more aggression than he has displayed in the last few months, probably because his place in the XI is not secure. 

It was probably just a motivating speech to get him out of his shell, and it worked.. Don't think there's any reason to pounce on Kohli, except that he doesn't need to make all his thought-process public and get needless media attention for good or bad.

Something that we debated about a lot during WI series and Virat has put that in very simple words, its good to absorb pressure but there comes a times when team needs runs. Good that it was communicated to him very well and the situation was handled well. Virat seems to come across as a good communicator and is very clear what he wants from the team. 

 

Lets not confuse the words, quicken up means by the standard pujara was playing in WI . He hasnt asked him to become sehwag, he has just told him not to go in shell

I don't see anything wrong in what Kohli and Kumble are advising Pujara. All they seem to be telling him is that he has the capability to score much faster than he has in the last couple of years. If you see some of his early knocks, he has scored at decent strike rate. Of late, he has had a tendency to get bogged down and that has resulted in him getting starts but not being able to capitalize on them. They are not suggesting that he change his natural style, rather go back to what was working best for him. I would rather have a captain and coach that provides feedback to players and tells them where they are going wrong rather than just be mute spectators.

He was out of form and low in confidence. He even struggled to score against spinners in that period in Aus and England and even at home in domestic cricket. He did struggle but certainly those big innings recently in Duleep trophy have boosted his confidence a bit.

Wait, I thought you didn't like Dravid for his supposedly slow batting?  

They are all capable batsmen to hit that mark, hence you see most of them playing LOIs.

I think Kohli should mimic Pujara to a degree. He seems to be too aggressive too early in his innings. He should focus on singles/doubles more early in his innings. He is so good in T20s and ODIs because he always gets in by running hard and accelerates after being at the crease a while.
