Texan Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Rohit Rahul Kohli Pandey Dhoni Pandya Raina Axar Ashwin Bhuv Bumrah Reserves: Dhawan, Yusuf Pathan / Rahane, Shami, Sran I think we need to consider what has been our biggest weakness of late in LOIs and that is lower order hitting. With Dhoni having lost his hitting ability, we need some other players to step up. That is the reason for picking Yusuf Pathan. He was in great form in the IPL and if he can replicate some of that form, he would serve us well. Also, Raina has been picked because he provides that additional bowling option. His batting is more suited to lower middle order hitting and he should bat at either 6 or 7. Picking Axar in place of Jadeja as Jadeja's lower order hitting abilities are questionable. Axar's batting was found wanting earlier but hopefully he has worked on it now. He got an FC hundred recently and played some big shots in Zimbabwe. Bowling wise, I think they might be equal, Axar probably slightly ahead. Edited October 16, 2016 by Texan Damn auto correct!
Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Its a squad not in the batting order 1. Rohit 2. Rahul 3. Kohli 4. dhawan 5. Rahane 6. Pandey 7. Dhoni 8. Raina/Mandeep/ Yuvraj singh/ Krunal pandya 9.Pandya 10.jadeja 11. ashwin 12. bhuvi 13.shami 14. bumrah 15. Sran ( with a stress fracture i doubt he ll be ready and in rhythm till 2017 CT) 16. Kuldeep(even though i knw mishra will go.Pitega mishra england men) 17. umesh/mohit/dhawal in case they wanna have that extra fast bowlers or there is an injury This should be the squad , unless someone break through with some terrific perfomances or injuries . I still feel we need some more option for Raina's spot. With Ct2017 not far away we dnt have much time to All This team needs is to find a batsman in lower order who can bowl few over, hit the ball long way and is not a liability in field someone like Yuvraj singh or krunal pandya. Even i dnt think krunal has any chance and it would be to risky also to go tom him but someone in his zone . Even someone like yusuf pathan but a better fielder. With Ct2017 not far away i dnt think so yuvraj can be kept out of picture. Some players are just there to lend balance to the sqaud Player who shouldnt be around this squad - Mishra, binny, jadhav, Raydu, Rishi dhawan (no disrespect to all of them as they all are domestic legends and consistent players. Yes they all have gotten less opp compare to others and they always have work hard for their places. But the reason they have got less chances is coz they lack that x-factor or needs of modern cricket like hitting, fielding , running or facing pace as each has their own issue. They arent at a young side of age that they should be invested in. In LOI cricket younger cricketer are reaching diff level of skill set. I also say this they all could have been pillars had they played for sides like Pak, SL, WI , ireland , Zimb or Afghansitan but India is a top side and aiming to be champion. Champion side needs best of the best player and cant do with avg players.) Edited October 16, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03 Mosher and tweaker 2

Vilander Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Dhawan is a good ODI bat, Rahul is not bad choice at all but yeah lets not confuse formats. Dhawan and Rohit are awesome in ODI's. sandeep 1
sandeep Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Which 2 to play out of Dhawan, Rahane and Rahul is a tough call. The other thing Dhawan has going for him is that we don't have lefty bats in the lineup. Pandya should be played at 5/6 in the next few ODIs, for the experience. He needs to be closer to Pandey/Dhoni level as opposed to Jadeja level, to really make our 1st ODI XI. I wish Chahal gets an ODI game or 2 soon as well. I like what I've seen of him. tweaker 1

You trust them to hang in tests but in ODIs, they are not the big hitters lower down the order. 13 minutes ago, express bowling said: A practical team .... taking into consideration format specific strengths and batting position specific strengths/ weaknesses of individual players and team balance. BK is a tempting option but he can only come in if Shami does badly or Pandya bats at six which means dropping Manish Pandey or if we play just one spinner on a highly seam conducive surface.

Neither Rahul or Pandey. We do not have players for that position. In future, I would hope likes of Pandya brothers or Deepak Hooda could fill the void of batting at 6-7 once Dhoni goes and Rishabh Pant is ready who should be opening with Rohit and will be the keeper too then we can look for someone else at 6.
