tweaker Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Virat Kohli's form hiding India's batting flaws, depriving reality checks Kohli has been in sparkling form in ODIs and is the only consistent batsman in the ODI team. Virat Kohli's recent knock of 154* took India to a 2-1 ODI series lead over New Zealand. Kohli scored 53% of the team total at Mohali and, in this series, so far, he averages an astronomical 248 runs. The Delhi batsman has scored 34% of his team's runs and in the two winning causes, he has scored 50% of his team's runs. While each such knock is putting Virat up there amongst the ODI batting legends of the game, it's working to India's detriment on the whole and hiding a flawed batting line up. Not just in this series. Over the last twelve months, Kohli has scored 26% of India's ODI runs, 32% of India's T20 international runs and 33% of Royal Challengers Bangalore's runs in IPL 2016. Since we are discussing Kohli’s impact on the national team, let’s keep his small matter of 973 runs in IPL 2016 out. That leaves us with Virat scoring 30% of the team’s runs over the past year in T20s and ODIs. If you factor in winning causes, Virat's contribution rises up by a further 13% - i.e. net of 34% of team totals. Which brings me to the question – what are the other batsmen doing and when will they be putting their hands up? If the Indian Test captain keeps playing like this, we are depriving him of some much-needed rest before the upcoming high-profile India-England test series, and also depriving India’s upcoming, young batsmen a chance of getting serious runs now.The objective of the meaningless bilateral ODI series should be to prepare the newbies for the future and sterner tests ahead. Frankly, the loss to New Zealand at Delhi last week, gave more warmth to the heart than the two wins inspired by 'Virat Kohli and the bowlers'.Kedar Jadhav's under pressure 41, Hardik Pandya's 36 and even Umesh Yadav's 18 off 23 balls, while trying to win a game against a tough team gave more hope for the future. At least India’s middle order can try standing up, once the top order fails. Source : sportskeeda express bowling and sourab10forever 2

Other batsmen won't score until they realise that the betting responsibility is on them...and even if they don't still who cares about LOIs...test is more important. tweaker 1
express bowling Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 We will be doing service to both Kohli as well as the Indian ODI side, by resting him for the next 2 matches. Kohli needs a break to get refreshed mentally from non-stop cricket. Our ODI batting needs a reality check and that won't be possible if Kohli is playing. Mosher and tweaker 2
Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I would really like to see him rest but where would this team go without him. We dont even have dhawan n KL rahul. Neither Rohit has been in the form that he has shown in Odi for last 2 yrs I hope we win the next game and rest him in last ODI

sandeep Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 It was discussed by team management - Ashwin publicly said that Virat refused the rest, saying he wants to score a couple of hundreds. Austin 3:!6 Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Yes absolutely. Long season coming up with Eng tour, Aust, IPL, CT (if we look that far). Considering he is playing non stop he must be given leave for these last 2 ODIs. Also rest him for that Bangla test and make Ashwin the captain. Sometimes rest not only heal you physically but its a great mental rest.

Why should he forcibly be rested when he wants to play....right now Virat is the only secure guy in the entire team,so if he wants to continue....it is his wish...sometimes...it is good to take momentum forward....what if he takes rest and loses the momentum..it has happened before. Gambhir after 2011 WC was on top of the world...then took a break and England happened and that was the beginning of the spiral...many such examples....The guy is fit and has no injuries and he wants to play so big deal tweaker 1

Dravid and Laxman played in the windies series. Suffice to say they were the two best batsmen in the England series. That skipped series by Sachin was such a bad move and really disappointing. He could have got over the 100 100s a bit earlier too and played without pressure. I dont know who advised/agreed for him to skip series. tweaker and maniac 2

Now u ll say well they batted well, but they didnt finish the Game. Then ull say m being to harsh on them, arent u dhoni Ind-Wi t20 game where he played well and just could finish. Screwed how????????????? What gr8 position we were in ???? Did we have quick start or even a solid base that he screwed it from there???? We were already in a poor position. IF responsible every one including dhoni was faulty for that game . Happens in sports , greatest of the players have screwed up on so many occasions. Sports is still played by human not robots so stop expecting things will always fall in to place. Dhoni will fail to while finishing games. Mcgrath would be smashed in last overs . Even Tendulkar avg 17 in test in 2003 and here people have gone bonkers on him whose avg is 28 this yr and 2 games left. IF i put up his stats of his whole Odi career ur words will be put to shame . Kohli avg 36 last yr. Its ok players have low phases in sports, but like a legend he did come back. Even line could be made Rohit screwed WC2015 chase after being set, Kohli screwed that chase by wasting so many balls 4 hours ago, Viper said: Selfish as always Good he is selfish, U cant be a big player if u arent selfish in a good way. PBN Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 About 10 days rest between the NZ series and England one. Let Kohli make a few runs
MK55 Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Should only be rested if he has requested for it and if he's showing signs of burn out. No point resting an in form batsman otherwise. Different for bowlers though. Besides, without him in the side and considering the form of the top order, there's a 70 percent chance of us losing.
Ultimate_Game Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 A couple of games? I would have rested him for the whole odi series. Kohli is too valuable to be wasted in such a pointless series and I would rather see likes of Pandey and Jadhav get more opportunities.
rkt.india Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) ODIs are his stronger suit. Why should you rest him from there. Let him make merry till the sun is shining. If you want to give him rest, rest him from a test where we can do without him scoring runs too. Tests especially in India on rank turner's aren't his stronger suit. you can rest him there if you want. Edited October 26, 2016 by rkt.india Bleed-Blue and tweaker 2

First off....he is the captain of the test team and we have done so well under his captaincy in tests, winning the last 4 series we played. Why would you rest an in-form captain and why would he even remotely agree to that ? Secondly...he averages 47.17 in test matches played in India, with a double century in the last test he played. Why would we want to rest such a batsman ? Mosher and tweaker 2

Yes, he does score in India but only when conditions are a bit flatter like last test in Indore or the last test against SA in Delhi but he struggles whenever there is some help for bowlers. Regarding captaincy in India, any player in this team can captain the team and we will still win when likes of Ashwin and Jaddu are there to save you. His captaincy will actually be tested when we tour to Aus, SA, and England. Cant judge him as a captain in India. tweaker and Bigg Brother 2
