Hopefully Rahul is drafted in to play .

But absolutely must play 6 batsmen .We simply don't have the batting quality to get away with just 5 batters against quality opposition.

Umesh leaks runs. IMO better to have a containing option in the line up. While Bhuvi will create less chances than Umesh he is far more likely  to tie one end up and allow Ash n Sir to create pressure from the other end. 

 

You have to keep in mind this is a 5 match series. You need to protect your spinners from bowling too many overs. Umesh is not the sort of bowler who bowls long spells.

Most probably it will be the same team. Would have wanted Kuldeep to replace Mishra but don't think that will happen. Gambhir should be dropped once Rahul comes back. He got his chances but he failed. Selectors need to move on and should stop recycling players. It would be unfair to drop Umesh after this match. He bowled well and created many chances on this flat pitch and on any other day could have picked up a 5-fer. For those talking about Bhuvi, he is playing in a Ranji game to prove his match fitness. That match gets over on 16th so don't know if he can make it to the 2nd test match on the next day. Same is the case with Rahul. But yes Bhuvi has performed whenever he has got a chance and he should get opportunities to show his skills on flat pitches too. He will be probably in the team for the 3rd test.

Still with 3 genuine spinners,2 seamers and better equipped with bat.I think it's gonna be

a turner so don't expect a lot from the seamers. This according to me is a well balanced side

with all bases covered.

This seems to be the team we should be playing against the poms. Poms play with lot of batting depth. We should also do the same and hope toss is in our favor. Else could be nightmare again

Vizag will offer a lot more help for spinners, so it makes sense to pick 3 spinners and Mishra will get another chance. None of the Indian spinners did well in this game, so cant see Mishra getting dropped because of this one performance.

 

I can see Pandya getting picked as batting does look thin with Ashwin coming at 6 but will be a mistake. Yadav is a much better wicket taking option. Pandya will not offer much with the bat, he is a slogger and barely capable of batting well even in ODIs.

 

If Ishant is fit, he could be picked in place of Yadav.

 

Squad has already been picked for first 2 tests, so they will probably give another chance for Gambhir before thinking of dropping him.

--  If it is a turning pitch then 2 spinners are more than enough.   If it is not a turning pitch then the 3rd spinner  is anyway wasted and the 3rd seamer is more useful.

 

--  I will play Pandya as an attacking batsman...our batting looked too one-dimensional in terms of batting SR and the English bowlers were not put under pressure..  Rahul, Kohli ,Pandya and Jadeja can be the aggressors and Vijay, Pujara, Rahane, Ashwin and Saha can stabilize the innings.

Rahul is playing the ranji match in Andhra only . So we must get him in the team at any cost. Even he has to leave the ranji match midway

If he plays the full Ranji match, that would mean 9 continuous match days for him.

I would like to see Vijay, Rahul, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Nair, Ashwin, Saha, Jadeja, Shami, Ishant.

 

I know it's a turner in the next game. Which is why we should have a longer batting lineup. Mishra as a third spinner will be underbowled and he bowls too slow in test matches to make an impact, has a no ball problem and bowls too many poor deliveries. Like Yadav, both relieve pressure on the opposition. 

 

Long batting lineup, bowlers being disciplined is key. Especially against a side like England. Rahane is world class but played some pathetic shots in this match versus spin. Maybe even drop Ishant for Pandya.

Don't think Rahul will leave midway. I'd personally drop Gambhir for Nair and open with Pujara.

Lets not make Kohli bat at 3, his record is abysmal at 3 in test, Rahane can bat at 3 . He made a 100 in SL at 3 and has batted for mumbai at 3
