Which were other 2 and what was the batsmans score then. 2) Faf was on 54: Ashwin to du Plessis, no run, sounds like there's an edge and Parthiv has dropped it. Length ball straightens outside off and tickles the edge as Faf goes on the back foot 3) Rabada when on 1: Ashwin to Rabada, 2 runs, dropped! That was Rahane territory. Excellent follow-up ball, quicker, on off stump, and he's stuck on the crease and opened up in defence. Thick edge, flies quickly to the right of Kohli at slip, and he dives, gets a hand to it, but can't hold on. Looks like it hit the edge of Parthiv's left glove before reaching Kohli 4) Fourth one was a keeper catch but didn't dive for it (simpler than Dhoni leaves) and it went between Keeper and 1st slip: Pandya to Rabada, 2 runs, edged, and it doesn't carry to first slip. Length ball in the corridor, Rabada is a little slow getting forward and across to defend. Hangs his bat out and the ball drops well short of Pujara at first slip, and then it bounces away into the gap to his right. Should Parthiv have dived across? express bowling, Straight Drive and Laaloo 1 2

These sort of things kill a bowler's confidence. Imagine had Ashwin had taken a 7fer here, he would have been a raging bull in the 3rd innings and SA would have been **** scared. GoldenSun 1

So Amla 52 runs, Faf 9 runs, Rabada 10. Total 71 runs given and he scored 19.

And dropped all those 10 catches. If Saha had been poor with keeping in the last match dropping him would have made sense. In the last match he was against 4 pace bowlers including Steyn on a helpful pitch. This match there is no Steyn. There is no lateral movement. I bet Saha would have outscored PP here. Yeah, I have been deducting Amla's 52 only, and leaving out Faf and Rabada -- my bad :( Heck, the lives he gave to Faf and Rabada makes up for the 19 "attractive" runs he made, and those were the two drops that went relatively unpunished. Saha's average now stands a very decent 56 runs above Parthiv's this tour. Most lower-order batsmen/all-rounders reach an average that high when they are in the middle of a purple patch or something. Shout out to ball-by-ball commentary though ... without them, people would only see the 19 and not the -52. Now, those clamouring for Parthiv over Saha in spite of the above have problems much bigger than Indian team selection -- like dyscalculia! The least you can expect of him is 0 ;) -- which is already a handy half-century more than Parthiv. Whether he would have scored more than Parthiv with the bat is a different issue. But since this is not galli cricket, you cannot just say "I won't play" when it is your turn to field. EDIT: You actually could -- by getting the 12th man to field for you. But not as keeper. vvvslaxman Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I would have rather had KKD in place of PP. KKD at least would have been a great substitute fielder. PP is absolutely useless with or without gloves on the field. Just for 20/30 runs picking him is monumentally stupid. He has to score atleast a 50 in the 2nd innings just to break even. But he might offset it by dropping a few more. Laaloo 1

As far as catches are concerned it purely speculation on everyone's part to claim Saha would have taken those. To set the record straight I scored the same runs as Saha in the first inning and I was not even playing. Moving forward it goes back to what I always said give it to karthick.

This article was printed in 2004. I have not seen an article like this about any Indian keeper in Indian cricket history except about Parthiv patel. That is why you cannot claim all the catches dropped by Parthiv will also be dropped by others. http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/142856.html

Karthik will make 15 more runs than pappu and drop one less catch than pappu and it won't be an improvement. Both pappu and Karthik are tried and tested failures. PP has dropped 9 catches in 3.5 tests since his comeback in 2016. Saha has dropped 4 catches in 17 tests. That is how we know Saha would have taken those catches. I mean did you watch that drop of Du Plessis off Ashwin's bowling? Can't get easier than that....a 15 year old club keeper without gloves would have caught that. express bowling 1

I want Saha as our main keeper for next 2 years and Pant as his deputy. Rishabh has good potential with the bat but if he is our 2nd keeper in Eng/Aus this year he can learn the finer details of keeping from the master himself. In case Saha is injured, Pant should be a keeper..would rather have a newbie make mistakes and learn than 34 year old certified failures like KKD and PP. Gilchrist in his autobiography credited Healy for helping him become a better keeper in his early days, Pant will get none better than Saha to guide him behind the stumps. Moreover before his debut if he spends a few months keeping to Bhuvi, Shami, Bumrah and our spin wizards in the nets that is much much better than rotting away in FC.......real learning curve. Pant/Kishen or whoever should be a regular in LOIs and play dead rubbers and against minnows in tests....this plan should have been rolled out 2 years back when these keepers should have played atleast dead rubbers in LOIs....why does Dhoni who has accomplished everything he can ,have to play against Zim,Sl,Wi or in situations when were 4-0 up etc etc.?..If people still think this is a conspiracy then I don’t have the words to describe them Edited January 15, 2018 by maniac beetle, Jimmy Cliff, Gollum and 1 other 4
Khota Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 The problem today is created by BCCI. They do not have rotation policy and there is no way on earth you will get runs out of Saha in these condiitions. Once again all catches are speculation and nothing else. abc 1
