Why is it that everytime Indian Test Team is strong we dont get to play with Pakistan? Is this the reason of our poor head to head record?

In 2017, Pak is suppose to tour India. Dont think BCCI will hv any issues with the series as they always wanted Pak to tour India. Its just that playing in UAE/3rd country is a big no from BCCI.

Now its upto PCB...if their ego permits to tour India.

They can keep head to head trophy for good.  I dont want Pakistan playing us anywhere unless absolutely necessary or if we have a normal relation.

not if they will have to play in India. They are dying to play us only if we have to play in Pak or UAE at their home venues which will help their revenue. Playing India in India won't because that will be an Indian home series. Pakistan wants to play a Pak  home series with India in UAE.

CJ could have written whole post in thread title itself.

Playing in a neutral venue like SA with revenue sharing among CSA, PCB and BCCI will be good for everyone.

Pathan had a hattrick and were 0/3 once but we let them score too many in second innings. Swing had gone and we played just 3 left arm swing bowlers, none of them could seam the ball like Asif did. Zak was the biggest disappointment in that series.

I blame that loss totally on batsmen, they should have scored 400 plus to put the pressure on their batting and give cushion to bowlers but like always Sachin and co never delivered when it mattered.

Funnily Pak doesn't really have a mind boggling test head to head (very fair 12-9) inspite of playing our weaker teams. Shows how Indians are better pressure performers.

And also the fact that most of the matches used to end in boring draw in 80s.

BCCI wont agree to that.

12-9 as it stand... but India have won more series? or series are 4-4

I think more than anything the head to head is like that cause Indian teams in the past sat on leads they got in series by making dead pitches.

One of the reasons why India still has a relatively poor win /loss record because in the 70s and 80s we had such a terrible defensive mentality once we took the lead not to lose it + the need for out board to get 5 entire days cricket in to raise revenues meant we never really won much in terms of just matches even at home.

We were always shit away from home, but I think what has happened in the last decade or so if we are winning literally every test we play at home.  So our win loss ratio in tests in the last decade is more than 1.

Not just India, even in Pakistan most of matches used to end in draw. Out of 21 results, 10 have came in last 15 matches and before that 11 results in 45 matches.

Moreover most of the results are by big margin by either side which means matches produced results only when one side completely surrendered except for few instances such as the match in which gavaskar scored 96. If there was little bit of content matches used to end in draw

and btw India have a test match win/loss ratio of 0.86666

Can anybody get me the series win/loss ratio?

0.95 (58/61) overall.

0.83 (50/60) against non-minnows.

Just for comparison, Pak has a W/L series ratio of 1.22 (54/44) overall and 1.02 (44/43) against non-minnows.

ftr, these numbers count one-off Tests as a series.

so as i suspected our series win loss ratio is a lot better than our test match win loss ratio.....about 9% difference. The 80s was a total waste from that POV. I suspect the greed of the BCCI in generating revenue with 5 whole days may have led to make drawn series at home. As the pre 2000 and post 2000 states show, only a matter of time we win more series than we lose. I dont think we have actually played the likes of Zim and BD that much in tests for it to be a big difference.

The mentality has changed under Virat where we look to win. So at the very least expect the series w/l to be positive within the next 5 years. The test w/l ratio i guess we will have to wait longer.

It was not the greed, it was the team which had no bowlers to win matches even at home. Kapil was lone warhorse who was carrying load. They had all these all rounders like Binny, Madan lal, who were bits and pieces players and there were no spinners either. Shastri was one constant spinner but he was in the team more for his batting.Pakistan was also same but they had home cooked umpiring and bottle tops.

Indian umpires in the name of neutrality harmed Indian team more than helping them.No wonder Indian team stats started looking better once neutral umpires came into picture.Pakistani record once neutral umpires came into existence reduced dramatically even though they had stronger teams in 1990s.

I respect that but this will continue forever. If not against Pakistan than against China in future and its been going in the past too. We will continue to play with them in ICC trophy. We continue to have their actors in our movies, their singers come and sing in Indian movies etc than whats the problem with bilateral series?

What has average pakistani done to harm us. It is the politics and I would let it remain till politics.

And for the record, I come from a military family and plenty of my ancestors have been part of Army, Navy and Air Force who have also fought battles and I know what it is like for a soldier's family. Still I feel we shoudln't mix sports with politics.
