Ian Chappell feels Australia should stop inviting Pakistan for Test series Down Under

Former Australian captain and a popular commentator Ian Chappell is of the view that Australia shouldn’t invite Pakistan cricket team for a tour Down Under unless and until they improve their game drastically and can give some sort of challenge to the home side it’s useless to invite them.

“Pakistan has now lost 12 Test matches on the trot in Australia, and somebody’s got to give them a kick up the bum. Cricket Australia have got to start saying ‘listen if things don’t improve we will stop with the invites’,” Chappell, who feels Pakistan’s poor fielding at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was a sign of things to come in the rest of the series was quoted as saying by the ESPN.

“You can’t continue to [play poor] cricket. You can’t bowl poorly, have conservative field placings and field sloppily and expect to play decent cricket in Australia,” he added. Chappell was very critical of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and said that the biggest reason behind Pakistan’s debacle was Misbah’s inability to inspire. “A lot of their struggles were because they had no leadership. There was no inspiration from Misbah, so things have got to change in Pakistan.”

Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq reflects on a series whitewash, responds to retirement talk and hits back at criticism from Ian Chappell

The outcome of our recent Test series in Australia has been very disappointing. I find it very hard to put it into words. I feel it is our worst performance in the six years since I took over the Test captaincy. This was not a team that should lose six Tests on the trot - we never thought that could happen. It was the worst possible scenario.

Ever since we lost to West Indies in the third Test in Sharjah in October, we have not been able to regain our winning momentum that saw us briefly rise to number one in the world earlier this year. It all started with the batting collapse there and then a substandard performance in New Zealand. We reached Australia on the back of three defeats and the team was low on confidence.

The 3-0 series defeat to Australia has been a huge setback for us. It is always huge when you lose amidst high expectations.

...

...

...

I noted some very harsh comments from Ian Chappell about my place in the team, my leadership and about whether Pakistan should have toured Australia. I believe those comments were uncalled for and unbecoming to someone who has a vast experience of playing and watching cricket.  The comments do not make any sense or suit a cricketer of his stature.

Australia themselves have been on the losing side in the recent away tours. They were clean swept by a Sri Lanka side that did not have Mahela Jayawardena or Kumar Sangakkara and some of their players didn’t even have 10 Tests to their names. Then Australia lost the one-day international series 0-5 in South Africa. In the recent past they have been whitewashed by us in the UAE and in India.

If we apply Chappell’s comments to Australia, does that mean if they continue to get whitewashed on the subcontinent on a regular basis then they should also not travel there?

And if Australia does not travel to Asia or the Asian teams do no travel to Australia then how are they going to improve?

Pakistan is not equal to entire subcontinent, Australia's recent record in subcontinent cannot be equated to pak's dismal, pathetic performance in australia and against australia over the course of 20 years. Aus vs pak head to head in the last 20 years is 17-3 in favour of australia, pak fans and players need to stop hiding behind the subcontinent excuse and accept that they don't deserve to play against australia after their pathetic showing over 2 decades

Even Australia's test record stands at 16-4 in India in last 45 years.

Australia doesn't deserve to play in India?

lol galat forum par mod hai tu, you should be mod of the padosi forum, why are you such a big pak apologist?

As for the Australia vs India, India's record is even more pathetic in australia so India don't have much bragging rights to stop inviting australia, australia have won a series in India just 12 years ago and their record in India/subcontinent only deteriorated just 7-8 years ago, pak has been pathetic against australia for over 20 years, 4 consecutive whitewashes, 16-4 is 10 times better than 12-0, you and other pak fans need to stop hiding behind other countries and accept the reality, 17-3 is pathetic, pak's record in australia can't be equated with Australia's record anywhere.

There is no shame in loosing overseas series. Its whitewash thats embarrasing. If whitewash happens trip after trip after, then that add substantial weight to views like Chappel.

You should not forget that Aussies came very low into this series on back of two embarrasing series defeats, One at home and one against newbies.

On the contrary, I thought there were some impressive individual performances. I did not expect to see a few good knocks from Pakistan, but they did.

A country to which no other team is visiting, has financial problems as well as administrative problems in the board, you can't expect much. Australia, despite having all the luxury and the best facilities, have not been the greatest in the SC.

This was a sad tour for Pakistan, but it wasnt as bad as it is being made out to be.

Pak losing a rain affected match in 3.5 days inspite of scoring 400+ in the 1st innings was pretty sad.  I thought that was their best chance to avoid a loss in decades.  They need to desperately get their batsmen into county cricket, or something.  Because their FC and other preparation is not producing test class batsmen.  Their batsmen are taking 2 to 3 years or more at the international level, to even possibly get to an acceptable level.  Its a bigger crisis than India's paucity of fast bowlers 15 years ago....

Misbah called it right though.  Chappelli is being a total d!ck - nothing new about it, he can't handle the requirements of being a media analyst that well - suffers from foot in mouth syndrome quite often...

To be fair to Chappell . I think he just said it flippantly rather then literally. Just so frustrated with Pakistan effort just blurted it out

ironically played better in this white wash then they have in other whitewashes . Best white wash effort they have given imo :phehe:

Old man seems unusually upset. Like beyond what is normal. Probably put some money on the series.

Wouldn't he be a bigger retard if he had put his money on Pakistan?
