Bhuvi is one of the most improved death bowlers for India, what are you even talking about? Before last couple of matches for 2 years he was the best death bowler in India according to economy from the stats shown during match

What stats shown?

Your pet went for 9 runs per over and this is not even his worst...it is a normal match for him, so normal that people don't even pay attention to it any longer.

It is an amazing way of judging. Umesh goes for runs every single match but 1 or 2 exceptions are pointed out. BK bowls economically every match but 1 or 2 exceptions are remembered. He is the most improved death bowler for India but somehow people have amnesia about that. When he is economical, people says things like - but he doesn't take wickets when the speed demon goes for runs as well as takes hardly any wickets

Why does this not apply in tests? Bhuvi averages much lesser than Umesh but you brought up a 100 reasons why Umesh should still be selected in tests. Stats only apply when it favors Umesh?

In the last series, they had shown the death over stats for bowlers all over the world. Not only was India no 2 in death bowling, Bhuvi was the best among Indian bowlers

Problem is that people see pace and get so excited as if is the best weapon to have in the world. It is only good if you can do other things right.

Game has changed and batsmen are more skillfull these days.  Watch how Faulkner was bowling today in the death and watch how Umesh did. I know Umesh is bowling in a much smaller ground but just see the variety. I mean Faulkner uses brain to bowl. He mixes it up and even though he does not have as good a pace as Umesh, he is trying and being less predictive.

Umesh has been around for a very long time now. He needs to cut limited over

cricket for a while and need to work on his basics again.

To be honest, I think Umesh is better off away from LOI cricket - he doesn't have the control to deliver a bunch of variety, mix it up, etc.  His best chance of success is the long-form - here he doesn't have to try to do too much in terms of variety, he can concentrate on executing simpler bowling plans. And his stamina and ability to bowl multiple spells at high pace is a value-add asset.

I'm a bit surprised that VK took his "back Umesh" philosophy into ODI cricket.  I guess he possibly thought that the added pace might make a difference against England's effective hack-gun batsmen.

Ain't happening VK.  Learn the lesson quick.  And don't be stubborn about it - like dropping ChePu for Rohit in tests.

But Bhuvi has been the most expensive Indian pacer in the last 2 years in ODIs...see the list above

How many has he played recently?

He had an injury followed by bad form...so he is done forever haan?Every one will get a chance ,but not him because he is not fast gun chand ka tukda.

He plays well in test ...so find some bloody effing excuse about good conditions .....

Other bowlers get a looooong rope but he has to perform exceptionally well and then benched.

There is no point even arguing on this effing forum obsessed with spped guns..

ICF is not dropping Bhuvi....don't forget that.  Every Indian captain and every Indian coach has dropped Bhuvi whenever they have got the chance.  Don't blame ICF.

I was not talking about speed guns either....Bhuvi has been the moist expensive Indian pacer in the last 2 years and his wickets per ODI match has always been low throughout his career.

Neither did I talk about dropping Bhuvi forever....he  would be in my first choice line-up in T20Is and I would pick him in some ODIs on a rotation basis..

In ODIs he has never been good and the same with Umesh.  Only Shami and Bumrah are good ODI pacers.

How are they valid? How many games Bhuvi played? Stats and statsguru can go to hell since bhuvi bowled in powerplays with 4 player out. Rule has changed since last 15 months with extra fielder outside now. Bhuvi hasn't benifitted much since he hasn't played much in last 12 months. Umesh's economy rate actually only gets worse if you check his economy in last 1 year, that is even after field restrictions rule change which was suppose to benefit the bowlers.

Stats will not show that. Cricinfo needs to take statsguru down so people stop worrying too much about stats and actually see and realzr that ODI rules change a lot from time to time.

Funny you bring stats and show stats for 2 years. In last 12 months, last 1 year, he has a pathetic economy rate of about 7 run per over. Showing his stats for 2 years makes it just look better which is not how his career has gone or is going towards. The stats you put doesn't paint true picture.

Here, this is what shows how crap Umesh has been in last 12 months.

Look man, I am all for BK over Umesh in ODI's but you cannot pick and choose stats when they fit your narrative. You keep bringing up stats when hyping up BK in test matches but do not agree with the view that Umesh has bowled much better in tests recently but stats won't show that.

I said he has bowled much better in Test.  There is a thread created right after a test match about how Shami and Umesh together out bowled even our spinners in one of the games. So let's keep Test away and I recognize his importance there.

This is ODI and I am not even sharing stats until someone above shared so I wanted to correct it. I am the last person to go to statsguru. I love going there when people come up with their version.

Whole point is that I want India to win. I don't care who plays, Bhuvi or Umesh of Kuruvila or anyone, as long as they are working good for us, I will keep them.

Umesh is not working for us in ODI's. If Bhuvi does the same, he shall sit out too for me. This thread is not to show Bhuvi support, just for Umesh being ordinary in short format.

Thing is Umesh only made it back to the team because BK didn't work too. Otherwise, he was dropped from the ODI team in 2015
