Tuk-tuk thread: List of low S/R starters (90s style batsmen mode) in current ODI team

First 10 balls, 2 runs. Then next 10 balls, add another boundary. Then some tuk tuk to go at S/R 40. Then figure out you are too slow, and "gradually try to score more", if you stay long enough maybe you will get S/R 80-100. Else get out after wasting having batted 30-45 balls for not a whole lot.

The 90s style ganguly-esque batting. Very slow starters. Wont take S/R 100 singles early by finding gaps.

In current team:

1. AM Rahane (always)

2. Rohit Sharma (always)

3. Yuvraj Singh (of present)

4. MSD (of present)

5. Shikhar Dhawan (to some extent, but that's coz he struggles to put bat to ball)

Dinosaurs will hurt us in modern day ODIs? Played with blazing S/R

KL Rahul is a low-score get out , or maybe go on to a big score - but probably not a tuk-tuk type.

Well pandya don't do this . It's all or nothing for him lol

Hardik Pandya, I did not consider for the list - he is not a genuine batsman. Bit of a much-better-version-of-Jadeja batsman.

Here, I am talking top order batting.

Only Rahane is real tuk tuk.

Dhoni and Yuvraj take time early on and then they accelerate.

Rohit too. But problem is when they get out at start of acceleration - then lot of balls (25-30-40 balls or more), have been wasted. Modern day ODI is to maintain good healthy S/R even in first 20-30 balls.

Rohit can go into beast mode and his SR as an opener is 89 with a avg of 51.

Rohit Sharma, Rahane and Yuvraj Singh need to take actively look for ones & twos, especially when chasing 300plus

but at least Rohit opens and is expected to playout the new ball to an extent and has a switch and starts launching them into stands.

Rohit is a gun odi player. One of the best I've seen after he settles in. The elephant in the room is the former kaptaan who thinks he's still the kaptaan. Even last match because yuvi was fluent and scored at a higher rate it allowed kaptaan to settle in. Today he was tuk tuking. Stalled the run rate. We made a match of it after he got out. Otherwise we wouldn't have even been close.

It was dhonis innings that lost it for us today. The ball wasn't even doing as much by the time he came in. Today was a seamer friendly wicket and so dhoni struggled. For major ODI tournaments, unlikely to have seamer friendly wickets so dhoni should stay for the time being.

Dhoni appeared happy/relieved at the end when Jhadav was unable to win it for us...that disturbed me a bit.

Run rate wise i thought we weren't doing too badly throughout given that wickets were lost at crucial times.

Dhoni plays far too many dots at the start for the pace at which ODIs are played these days. Middle overs are no longer just for knocking around singles and scoring at 4 to 5 an over. You still need a scoring rate of 6 in the middle overs. He was leaving everything outsude off stump today even when ball was not doing much. And then he couldn't stay long enough to get his strike rate up.

Dhoni has become a relic from another era. Seems to think you can play out dot balls to play yourself in but in today's game that approach is dated. His S/R for the first 20-25 balls is often very poor and if as often happens now he gets out cheaply then that just piles pressure on the batters to follow.

This disease has infected the openers who seem to think its a test match & try to see off the new ball instead of hitting boundaries when it'd the easiest time to score
