Sure.  But Rahul can't get another 10 games with this binary approach to batting.  Indian batting doesn't need mercurial unpredictability at the top of the order, no top team does.

Rahul needs to make a contribution else he is in danger of being dropped for the second test. Kohli likes to back his player but Rahul is not trying hard enough. Test cricket is hard and opening is doubly so. You cannot just score easy runs hitting good looking shots. 

 

Mukund is not the ideal choice as backup (would have kept Parthiv in squad, could have been backup for Saha too) but he is selected so should be played if Rahul doesn't keep price on his wicket

When Yadav takes 0 wickets in 5 innings and just 2 wickets in 7 innings out of a 5 test series, such posts are no where to be found. The only and only criteria for you are speed gun readings. When Bhuvi takes a 5-fer you guys go under a rock only to crawl back as soon as he has one bad innings. And of course the same criteria is never used on Yadav who can go wicketless innings after innings but is praised as soon as he takes couple of wickets. Because otherwise you guys cannot circlejerk to speed gun readings

 

The double standard is so evident. Bhuvi keeps excelling and has a couple of lean games. Posts after posts thrashing him. Yadav keeps sucking innings after innings and then shows some improvement. The speedgun circlejerk commences. 

 

There is no problem with being a blind speed gun fanatic, just dont assume the selectors and the captain and other fans only have that criteria to measure someone. When every player is being backed to the hilt by Kohli, including Rahul or Yadav who sucked big time whole of last year before having a couple of good matches (where he took 2 wickets max in an innings) that the same courtesy is not shown to Bhuvi who takes 5-fers for fun is pathetic

Why are you getting so worked up? Don't you know, just about anybody's better than Bhuvi? Especially some "new" name that ICF Phaast bowling lovers can lust after?  The newness make them automatically better than the "gun barrel straight"  (oh the irony) trundler who wakes up all those insecurities that these guys feel in their heart and loins?

I think that's harsh.  And don't fall into the trap of "mind reading" what someone is thinking based on their tattoos or haircuts.  KLR is a guy who is starting out, and needs to focus and figure out the right method to build innings.  Just that, he shouldn't be given an unjustified extra long run based on "potential" forever.

Agree with you on Rahul...on Mukund, I feel that he has been consistent in Ranji and looks like he has improved since when he last played for India

A captain needs a workhorse when all the strike bowlers don't buy a wicket. One bowler who runs hard and hit the deck hard and just does what the captain asks. Ishant/UYadav can do that. Bhuvi is not effective in that dept with the pace. Reverse won't happen all the time. So, we need to pick Bhuvi or UYadav based on pitches. If it is conducive to swing take Bkumar and on flat/fast pitches go with Ishant/UYadav.

 

Yadav is a test bowler, he should not be near a T20/ODI team. WIth the kind of pitches we play LOIs, Yadav can be taken to the cleaners with any kind of pace.

Raul has shown he has techinique. talent and abilty to score big runs at international cricket in some varied conditions (test ton in oz).  This is great as some may look good in FC bt when faced by international quality get found out.  Raul has not been found out and can clealry do it at this level.

 

So they know can deliver at this level.  Just needs to be consistent and sort a few things out in the head.  This is why being backed.  Better to  back someone like this, then someone who just does not have the abilty to do well in intetnational cricket.
