Kohli's use of pacers on Day 2 was the difference

It was a stupid decision and reflected in us conceding 87 run lead and nearly lost the game.

Today it was K because Umesh was picking wickets and looking threatening .That's the difference.

You can't say second day was good when we end up giving 87 run lead. That is huge on a pitch like this.

Umesh Ishant picked wicket even on 2nd day, created chances and looked threatening, just that we didnt take those chances. Renshaw, Marsh, all got lives. Their score had more to do with chances we missed rather than Jadeja not bowing.

Bowling Jadeja was a mistake but Umesh and Ishant looked lethal overall throughout the match. As per for Yadav, consistent performance in back to back Test matches. Good to see!

I didn't really agree with the decision as I wanted to jadeja to bowl but his decision didn't really backfire. Our pacers were brilliant there. Umesh was deadly accurate.

The hype is real

Agree completely with this. Umesh bowled the best in career in this match.  Infact he justified kohli's decision but that doesn't make it a good decision.  I would say he saved kohli completely and didn't let kohli's brainless decision affect the match.

Just because India won, doesnt mean everyone should excuse the mistakes because then he will likely make them again in the future and there will no chance of improvement. It was obvious he made a blunder by underbowling Jadeja because he thought it would be easier for left handed batsmen to face left arm spinner which is not a rule set in stone and overbowled Ashwin and also the seamers at times. Also he has to get better at making DRS decisions.

But he himself corrected that blunder in the second innings

2nd and third day were best day to bat. First, there was dampness in the pitch and it offered a lot of unpredictable turn and bounce to Lyon from side of the pitch to right handers. Next day, we barely saw anything of that kind from the spinners as the pitch settled. Even those wickets to  Jaddu barely had anything to do with the pitch but to his smart bowling and pressuire built up by pacers by not giving anything lose. Renshaw tried to attack him and he deceived by smartly bowling outside leg. Steve Smith got out to a straight quickish delivery which prevented him from coming down the pitch. Handscomb tried to attack and was caught at short midwicket by Ashwin. Those 3 top order wickets barely had anything to do with the pitch instead got out by playing poor shots.  No alarming turn or bounce to Jaddu just pure accurate and smart bowling by Jaddu which he does every time regardless of the surface.

Ishant too bowled well in this game and dserves lot of credit. He has gotten better as the series has progressed. He and Umesh really turned it on on day 2. And even on Day 4 when people were mad at him bowling, he got us the crucial wicket of Renshaw, who would have been a tough player to get out considering how well he played in first test.

Renshaw has the ability to last and handle spinners, and little fight from him with Smith could have put curtains for us in the 4th innings. So Ishant getting his wicket early was important strike for us first up.

This is where whole "Captain supporting fast bowler" comes.  Kohli really showed great support for him.

If only Kohli realized that and gave Jadeja overs at Renshaw on day 2 .

We would never have conceded that 87 run lead.

That's why this criticism of Kohli handled spinners on day 2 is justified.

Lol what are you on about as if someone is protecting that. Evrryone agreed that he should have bowled Jadeja more. Not one person is protecting that. So I wonder why you keep mentioning that it is justified criticism.

How about appreciate the great bowling of fast bowlers too and good bowling as a team and good captaincy since it was first time in recent history that a team managed hust 190 odd runs after batting whole day.

More runs were scored on day 3 than day 2 when batting was actually easier, but thanks to good bowling.

Its a slow wicket everyone scored at at slow rate

In first innings we scored even slower rate.If anything that day ,awful usage of Jadeja nearly cost us the game and gave Aussies 87 run lead.Huge advantage on a wicket like this.

We won because of that incredible partnership between Rahane and Pujara .Incredible 120 run partnership when we were down and out.

If anything that made the difference it was that partnership.

Because bowling seamers instead of Jadeja was a mistake.Ishat barely bowled decent and hardly looked threatening on day 2.

We were simply lucky to get away with that. Not because of some great seam bowling.

Lucky, rofl? Under pressure and in a worse situation, Rahane and Pujara added more runs thans Aussies and at a faster rate when we could have been rolled out and get done. And you calling our Indian bowling performance "lucky".

You did not watch the bowling at all. You should have seen how our bowlers troubled them both spin and fast bowlers.

That is why I say, watch the game and not read just scorecards and hear pitch report and base your opinion on that. And if you did not get time to watch, then don't just blatantly call the bowling performance "lucky."

Our bowlers "earned" it.

We bowled well. Learn to appreciate good bowling of our own team too.

You do not know why we gave away 87 lead? because we scored 180 and not because we bowled well and restricted them to 270.

Our first inning batting was a bigger reason. We batted really bad. We should have put at least 300, but we collapsed after a decent start.

That was the main reason of 87 run lead.

Nope. The main reason was not bowling the the current world no.1 bowler enough.

Would have bowled them out for 200 max.

So it's the seamers fault, Ishant in particular and Kohli , we have them 87 run lead.

if anything 2nd inning clearly showed that it was a mistake.

Had Kohli used same tactics again, we would have again ended up 190-6 in 100 overs and only thing was left to appreciate was pacers' effort in 2nd inning.

It was one of the reasons. Kohli should have bowled Jadeja as I wrote above and many others too(but you failed to read) But still we should have scored more. We batted pathetically when we got bowled out for 180z

We had advantage by winning the toss and batting first but we did not take that.
